South Africa has some of the most beautiful bloodstock and farms. Too bad the country is in such chaos. So very sad what is happening there. Their farms have been so kind to send some stunning stallion brochures as well.

No kidding. I never get tired of looking at photos of Drakenstein Stud
Even their Thoroughbred industry isn't immune to the turmoil their country is in, with strikes by workers over the summer leading even top trainer Mike de Kock to consider leaving the country altogether. The blog post he wrote in its entirety isn't on his site anymore, but here is a condensed version.

The whole situation in South Africa, from racial tension, land confiscation, to drought, is unfortunate. From a bloodstock point of view, South Africa has really upped their game in the last few years. They've been importing nice stallions, sending their mares to nice Northern Hemisphere sires like Frankel, etc. and offering the resulting offspring at South African sales to good results. Even Coolmore had started purchasing yearlings at South African auctions.

She’s a cutie. I will have to follow her Twitter account—it looks like fun one.RugbyGirl wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 7:09 am For those on twitter (hope this works) here is a vid of a Preferment-Vuela foal born today. Another pic of the Galileo-Silent Achiever colt doing the rounds in NZ racing media. She was one of my favourite racemares and I think I'm in love ❤❤❤

The Bobby's Kitten foal is very attractive. I'm not au courant with everything in South Africa although I was in and out of Johannesburg in August. The country's past was tragic and horrible. They are struggling to find a path. It is not always going to be pretty. The hope is for some racial balance and respect for property rights. According to a Johannesburg newspaper I read on a flight, matters are complicated still by "coloreds", who were defined as not just mixed-race or Indians, but lighter-skinned Africans (Bushmen v. Zulus) and are now, at least the lighter-skinned Africans, insisting that they are the only true South Africans and that their homeland was stolen by Zulus. The whole world just needs to get slapped upside the head.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.
