Alpha Centauri is fantastic. She just seems to keep getting better.

Hey all, I'm a new addition to the forum so forgive any dodgy posts from me!

Tomorrow the best racing meet in the UK starts (in my opinion)- the Ebor Festival at York. I've been a couple of times and can't remember a more welcoming crowd than the Yorkshire lot. Doesn't hurt that my first trip was to see Frankel romp in the Juddmonte...

Wednesday is the first day and is always a cracker. The racecard is below but in summary there is the Acomb Stakes (7 furlong Group 3 for 2yo), the top St Leger Trial in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur ( 12 furlongs) , and the Group 1 Juddmonte International over 10.5 furlongs. Always a stellar race. This year sees a good mix of older and younger horses. I hope that Without Parole can give a good account of himself in the spirit of his sire.

Ground is good to firm and it should stay dry during racing.

Welcome, KS. The field for the Juddmonte International is indeed outstanding: Dubai World Cup hero Thunder Snow, German group I winner Benbatl, Prince of Wales and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes victor Poet's Word, Irish Derby winner Latrobe and St. James Palace Stakes winner Without Parole.

Who do you like here?

I'm really bummed Cracksman isn't running...again. But even if he were, I'd still think Poet's Word is the horse to beat.

Thanks Starine.

I also think Poet’s Word is the one to beat- he’s achieved the best form out of any of these and seems to be on a roll. Latrobe might surprise some people though.

I would be very happy if Without Parole managed to win- I think a flatter galloping track will suit him.

The Lion roared his way to victory, putting on an impressive display and batting his competitors as a cat would a toy... the son of Kitten's Joy sold for 160 000$ as a yearling and now has felled the Juddmonte International. Congratulations to Roaring Lion.

That was a dominating win by the grey Kitten's Joy colt over a very good field.

I was pleased to read that Gosden is looking forward to racing him at four (if his owner agrees), and that he feels the three-year-old will get even better.
I remember when Ken Ramsey was grumbling about his stallion not getting enough respect here, and that he might send him off to stand in Europe. Now, I wonder if the European breeders are going to be lining up to send their mares to KJ in Kentucky. :P
Thunder Snow ran a strange race; he was sent to the front, which he held for over a mile before fading to last. It looked like Godolphin chose to use him as a pace-setter for their other runner, Benbatl, who only managed 5th. I hope Thunder Snow returns to the US and gets to run his own race, without being possibly hampered by 'team' plans.

"The truth is they reach their absolute Zenith at 5" - music to my ears... Gosden is having a fantabulous year.
Looking forward to him hopefully running next year at least!

They certainly will! And plus, they have access to a son of Kitten's Joy in Bobby's Kitten who stands at Lanwades over there. I imagine Japan will be knocking at Kitten's Joy's door too, since he sired a Gr.II winner (Gendarme) over there last December.

Hard not to root for him. I love seeing Kitten's Joy's offspring excelling abroad, and on top of that he is a grandson of the good sprinter Cambiocorsa.

When they say "struck into," does that mean that another horse stepped on or kicked his foot or leg? Ouch. :(
I've heard of a horse losing one shoe during a race, but if my horse lost TWO shoes during an important race like the Juddmonte, I'd be having a conversation with the farrier.

Likely either another horse or maybe Benbatl himself struck his leg at some point during the race.

I heard Thunder Snow lost one front and one back shoe. He may have overreached or something. I think it's his first race back on grass after the Dubai World Cup. Bin Suroor said he needed the race and the ultimate goal is the Breeders Cup.
