Thank you for sharing MSD I don't think this one has been posted yet! She seems confident like Beholder and Mendy apparently were at that age. I've got big dreams for this little gal... (as I still do for Mendelssohn!)

Leslie's Lady has a yearling MdO colt, but it appears she didn't have a foal between the MdO and Mendelssohn.
I wonder if Clarkland will send the MdO colt to the sales? Considering how talented her offspring have been, I wouldn't be surprised if he beats his half-bro's sales price, so long as his conformation is OK.
ETA: I found this nice Bloodhorse article from last year, with lots of photos of LL and her good-looking MdO colt.

We spoke to Dr. Claire Latimer, the veterinary ophthalmologist that performed the emergency surgery on our foal late yesterday, and wanted to share an audio recording of our conversation with her to bring you up to speed on this unfortunate incident.

In all the recent interviews done with them this spring they stated they were prepping him for the sales and intending on selling him. They were going to sell any colt she might produce and retain any fillies. So they'll keep the American Pharoah daughter... I don't think they've announced any plans to breed her back yet though? They were in wait and see mode but I suspected even before she was born they might stop there since they got what they wanted.

Interesting that they actually call the left eye the "rail eye" but that makes sense (at least for counter-clockwise racing)... it seems like it's one of those freak things. The lack of outright/blatant evidence of a kick or whatnot makes it a bit of a puzzle but it's happened to her so young, I bet she adapts very quickly.

Horses, man. Glad she's got the best care. <3

Via Veneto's beautiful filly still has a large bandage around her neck several days after they first put it on her. I wonder why. Outwardly she seems healthy. Does anyone have any idea why the bandage? Here is a screen capture I took from the live feed tonight. She was busy dealing with an itch, lol.

I’ve only ever seen foals wear those bandages around their necks when they have catheters. Wonder if her blood work was off and she needed some antibiotics.

Yesterday(or possibly the day before) I saw 2 people administering 2 syringes into her, near the neck bandage thingy. They were in her stall but the foal was partially outside of video range. The man that administered them tossed each used syringe into a small pail when he was done. Someone else was holding the foal still. Once both syringe were administered, both people left the stall and the guy took the pail with him, which has the 2 used syringes.

Oh no! There's been too much heartache watching these mares and foals this season. The filly who was born the same night as La Verdad's filly died, then Via Veneto died and now her foal has a big bandage wrapped around her neck. The California Chrome x Colerful Bride filly lost an eye. And now this with Bird Town. I hope with all my heart that she's ok. Please be ok, Birdy. Sigh.

Bird Town and her foal are back in their stall!

so glad whatever ailed her appears to have passed and she is no longer in distress! it's amazing how attached you can become to them from afar.

Awww, that photo of Bird Town covering up her foal is about the most heartwarming thing I've seen in way too long. She is such a wonderful mare, and I'm glad she's back in her stall doing ok.

Oh thank goodness, I was helping wrangle kids & ponies at a horse show this morning & was afraid I'd come home to news I didn't want to see. Sooooo glad she's okay and they're back home. <3

All Is Well...
May 20th, 2018
Late last night, the brood mare manager at Gainesway noticed Bird Town seemed to be uncomfortable and just wasn’t acting like the Bird Town they know.

As a precautionary measure, the decision was made to take her to the clinic to be examined by a veterinarian.

As it turned out, Bird Town had a mild case of colic which was treated immediately and she was brought back to the barn within hours.

Colic is very common in horses. In layman’s terms, colic is pain in a horse’s stomach. If not treated quickly and correctly, colic can lead to serious illness and can possibly be fatal.

For 80% of colic there is no known root cause and colic symptoms may vary.

Thanks to a very caring and attentive barn staff, Bird Town is back in her stall watching over her beautiful filly.
