I think Dallas is trying to introduce some new names for Mr. Fipke to consider, lol.

This played out on Twitter yesterday and today. I'm posting some of the tweets because David Crisp may not have found a nurse mare in time if it hadn't been for Twitter. Stories like this happen every foaling season. It was a lot harder to find good matches for orphan foals before Twitter.

Rest In Peace beautiful mama, Wave The Colors. We will never, ever forget you. You brought so much joy into our lives and I promise to do everything possible to save your Goldencents baby. We are on the way to meet his nurse mare, but he will never, ever forget you either.
Apr 16
Our newly orphaned Goldencents foal and I have just left equine hospital in Louisiana on our way to meet our nurse mare, step-mom in Cross Roads, TX. We are riding together in our trailer and hope to make it in around 4 to 4 1/2 hours. He is a champ so far but misses Mom
23h23 hours ago
Initial introductions went well. Baby Goldie was not bashful and the nurse mare was pretty patient as he nursed constantly for an hour. Baby Goldie looked at me, smacked his lips and said he really needed that! Now over the next couple of days we need her to adopt him as her own
13h13 hours ago
Update on Baby Goldie and our nurse mare coming, but first a big shout out and thank you to @SarahHorsegirl who gave me the lead on a possible nurse mare in Aubrey, Texas.Sarah, you went above and beyond. Baby Goldie got a tummy full of milk late last night after a long, long day

I have been up for more than 48 hours so no eloquence in my words but thankfulness in my heart. Most of you know we lost Wave The Colors on Sunday night due to colon torsion and emergency surgery. She left us with so many great memories and an 8 week old Goldencents colt (1/2)

Our Goldencents foal was grieving so hard after suddenly losing his Mom, and would not drink for us from bucket or bottle. He was inconsolable. We knew we needed a nurse mare but could not find one within several hundred miles of us. That’s when @SarahHorsegirl stepped in (2/3)
13h13 hours ago
Sarah’s lead in Aubrey, Texas resulted in us finding Misty K., whose mare had lost her own foal over the weekend, and Jackie J., an orphan foal specialist, and Dr Holtmeyer. Together we came up with a plan to get our foal to Misty’s mare, appropriately named Hope! (3/4)
13h13 hours ago
Our 700 mile odyssey began by picking up our foal upon release from the hospital and hauling him to meet Hope. Walter, a good friend, pitched in and offered to drive so I could ride in the trailer with Goldie & try to console him. By about 10 pm we arrived at Jackie’s farm (4/5)
13h13 hours ago
Jackie immediately put Hope and Goldie in a special stall to facilitate a safe nursing environment for a young hungry foal and a grieving older mare. Literally within minutes Goldie was getting a tummy full of milk! We watched as for over an hour Goldie continued to nurse (5/6)
12h12 hours ago
Hope is a bit cranky this morning, and I am sure more than a little tender, but everyone is staying the course and praying that Hope “adopts” Baby Goldie as her own. I had to drive back to our farm arriving at 4:30 am this morning but so pleased that Goldie now has a chance (5/6)
12h12 hours ago
Now on to something equally as important. That is all of you on “horse” Twitter. Just my thanks is not enough. So many of you sent prayers and encouragement over the last 2 days. Several of you even helped us try to locate nurse mares. Goldie and I are eternally grateful. (6/7)
12h12 hours ago
We don’t know if Hope will go on to adopt Baby Goldie and raise him as her own. We do know it gives Goldie his best chance. Gratitude to Misty and Jackie, @SarahHorsegirl, @bergenstables @Kerrycouch4 @Leahbrandon and so many others. What you did was important for our little foal.

So excited to post these brand new pictures of Baby Goldie and his new Nurse Mare-Step Mom, Hope. These were taken just a few minutes ago and in the words of our orphan foal specialist, Jackie, the two are “progressing”. @SarahHorsegirl @bergenstables @Kerrycouch4 @leahbrandon2

Still cautious for the next week. Mare is still being “cranky” at times, but she lost a small foal and 48 hours later found an 8 week old foal with a ravenous appetite that never seems to get full and has real teeth! New mom is tender-imagine that! Progressing.

Not entirely sure but the orphan foal specialist seems entirely on top of the issue. I am an optimist by nature so very hopeful this issue will be properly resolved by a lady who has already completed 17 or 18 nurse mare adoptions this season. She is very special.

Hope, our nurse mare, is a registered Quarter Horse. (We are not telling her that Goldie is a thoroughbred due to possible breed discrimination. Ha!)

It's finally starting to feel like spring in Kentucky (after a few false starts!) and one of our favorite mommas, Alternate (dam of multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Alternation and the multiple stakes winner/graded stakes-placed Interrupted) is keeping close tabs on her Curlin colt.

Thank you for the update on Wave the Colors '18, Sparrow Castle - when I got on Twitter yesterday they had just found the nurse mare but hadn't yet arranged transportation to get to her. So glad to see this is possibly working out for everyone involved, and stepmama mare and baby Goldie. Fingers crossed for a full bond to form! <3

Woohoo!!! Such a pretty baby too. Such a contrast between how the TM people handled this birth vs. the way the people with La Verdad handled that birth. At TM they seemed much more relaxed and calm about it all. Didn't even clean up the stall before the birth.LostADream wrote:Colerful Bride at Taylor Made appears to be in labor:

Right now, 9:50pm eastern, the mare seems very tender and doesn't seem to want the foal to nurse. Scares me a bit. The people are helping her now, and 9:53pm baby is nursing. Whew!KimmieB wrote:Read a tweet that its a filly. Sorry at work, or I would have posted it.LostADream wrote:Colerful Bride at Taylor Made appears to be in labor:

It seemed to me that two things were bothering Colerful. First, she seemed very tender and sore in her back area and around her teats. She was squealing in pain when the caretakers were washing her teats. The second thing...the dude with the camera seemingly sneaking around her foal made the mare anxious. She couldn't relax until they finally left her alone and the foal got in a really good, long feeding.Flanders wrote:The way she was acting I thought it was her first foal but she had one last year. I imagine they will closely watch her for awhile. I saw her kick out a couple times, not really at the foal but just to let it know to back off.

Foal looks like it'll be grey like mom. Looks a lot like her really with the extra high white and large blaze.

Another by my favorite stallion, Munnings. This the first foal out of an Into Mischief mare I love, Walking Miracle. The mare had a paddock accident as a foal and vets recommended she be put down. We did our best to save her and she survived and is now a mom. @coolmorestud

Chestnut for now......I'd say 90% chance of grey. She's extremely dark and adult coloured for a foal. She's even darker than her dam was as a foal.Ridan_Remembered wrote:Good morning all.
