Yeah, that!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

My favorite horse is dead. I've got tears running down my face as I type this. I've followed this horse since his first start and knew he would be great. I was really ecstatic when he actually did prove how great he really was. Was hoping to meet him someday, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. RIP beautiful boy and have fun running with the other greats up there.

You were the first person I thought of when I read the terrible news. I know it hurts, and you have my full sympathy. He was one of the most beautiful horses I've ever seen.

Most of us have that one special horse. I felt a great loss when Alysheba passed away in 2009, I had already made plans to visit him. Fortunately, I saw him race a couple times. Sorry for your loss.

Summer Bird, I thought of you too and I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose our special favorite horse. I know how that feels.

RIP beautiful Summer Bird. Run and fly with the heavenly herd!

Thank you everyone for your messages. I'm going to miss him so much, but at least I have 3 crops of his babies to follow.

I'm so sorry about that SB, was devastated when I heard, and can only imagine what you are going thru. Like you said, at least you have some babies to follow. He's got a lot of great company up there, unfortunately.

Northport wrote:Both have proven themselves as good racehorses and sires, but for me, Johannesburg was one of the best two year olds of all time, and being able to win at the highest level on turf and dirt is exceptional. I am a little biased because I have always liked him but between Henny Hughes and him I would go with Johannesburg. His sons Scat Daddy and Teuflesberg are having a bit of an impact so that has some appeal as well.
Yushun has announced 2014 stud fees for their stallions recently.
Henny Hughes will stand for the same fee as Johannesburg (JBBA). (¥1,800,000. about $17,200.)
Henny Hughes is already fully booked as well.

Looks like Henny Hughes was probably fortunate to wind up in Japan. I doubt he'd have booked full in KY, even though he has sired some talented horses like Beholder and Asia Express.

Sure he is fully booked this coming year, he is new on the market there. Let's see what his books look like down the road.

Some of the numbers posted here for other stallions from the US are less than stellar :

Aldebaran(USA) 17 (23)
Boston Harbor(USA) 9 (5)
Charismatic(USA) 31 (26)
David Junior(USA) 12 (3)
Johannesburg(USA) 24 (23)
Silver Charm(USA) 10 (13)
Squirtle Squirt(USA) 12 (18)
Stravinsky(USA) 3 ( - )

Japan is a small country and even smaller is the area available to raise horses. When they import so many stallions from across the world somebody is going to have low numbers. The new kid on the block will get the big books for the first 3 years most likely, then if they don't produce champion after champion the books will decrease.
