ALL STAR KITTEN had a tall beautiful WICKED STRONG filly last night. Both are doing great.

It looks like StreuFex, or some kind of broken down straw compound. All of Ramsey's mares foal on it, and people have asked about it a few times on their Facebook. They almost always give a thorough explanation of what it is and why they use it, but I am lazy and tired and it's too late to go look for it. But I do know that it's not dirt.

Thanks for the info. Maybe the process of breaking down the straw also provides a chance to sterilize the mixture, cutting down the likelihood of bad stuff in the straw?

It just looks so uck! I can't imagine a mare foaling on that, maybe they do move them onto straw for that. New foals should be curled up in a nice bed of straw. Mares at the farm I work at foal on a bed of straw about a foot deep, stay in the foaling stall for a day or two, then go to a stall with deeply bedded shavings.
