Sikura also managed to talk Tepin's connections into breeding her to Curlin so... I think they're trying to see if Curlin can produce on the turf?BaroqueAgain1 wrote:They chose to breed this mare to Curlin?
That just seems like...an odd choice? Does he 'nick' AAA+ with her or something?
Have we seen any Curlin foals out of Galileo mares yet, so we have an idea how His Golden Dirt Burlyness matches with a Lady Grass Goddess?

I mean, I don't *hate* them trying to tap into some turfiness in Curlin's pedigree. It's just weird to see in the US market. I imagine it's an attempt to internationalize Curlin's appeal if he can throw turf runners when bred to high class turf mares.
Smart Strike himself was a sneaky-good turf sire and the turf influences are there all through Smart Strike's dam-side. I think with Curlin, it's going to be about trying to skip past all the Deputy Minister influences that come through on him - his build and action are very much like DM with more 'bulk' to him.

Yep I think you've hit the nail on the head. I mean it makes sense when international buyers do come to North American sales and spend top dollar on War Front get for example.I imagine it's an attempt to internationalize Curlin's appeal if he can throw turf runners when bred to high class turf mares.

Long On Value supplemented to Keeneland November Sale
http://live.drf.com/nuggets/39384-long- ... ember-saleMultiple graded stakes winner Long On Value, third in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile in September, has been supplemented to the horses of racing age portion of Keeneland’s 2017 November Breeding Stock Sale. An earner of nearly $1 million, Long On Value will be consigned by ELiTE Sales as Hip 2884A, to sell Tuesday, Nov. 14.
“Long On Value is a hard-knocking Grade/Group 1 horse that continues to get better with age,” Bradley Weisbord with ELiTE Sales said. “Internationally campaigned in 2017, he ran second by a nose in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai and was an unlucky third in his most recent run in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile to top American miler World Approval after being blocked badly around the far turn. He’s ready to provide his buyer with thrills at the top of the sport.”
Long On Value has proven soundness and durability, finishing in the money in 17 of his 30 starts during five seasons of racing in North America and abroad and earning $981,693.
He has competed at the highest levels, winning the Grade 2 Twilight Derby at Santa Anita and Grade 3 Canadian Turf at Gulfstream Park. This season he was second in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan Racecourse and rallied strongly to finish a good third in the Woodbine Mile. Long On Value also has seconds in the Canadian Turf and Grade 2 Arlington Classic and a third in the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile at Keeneland.
A 6-year-old horse, Long On Value is by Value Plus out of the Orientate mare Long Message.

I wouldn't hate anyone if, you know, it took a year to recover from those scrapes an, well, they might as well race her another year.Retrospectiv wrote:Lady Eli scratched from Keeneland Nov (again..)

Sale starts at 11am EST and can be viewed here: http://www.keeneland.com/livevideo/sale ... ithcat.php
Even without Lady Eli, there are plenty of mares who should make a splash, although I don't expect anyone to top Songbird's price tag last night.
I have a feeling Stellar Wind goes to Japan. I don't see Coolmore seriously going after her, and I'm wondering if Mandy Pope blew her entire auction budget last night.

$2.3M for Cathryn Sophia. I think she's the first million dollar horse in this sale (she was hip 30).

She's very antsy...not surprising for a mare who just came off the track. She looks good. Better than she did last Friday. Probably because she's more hydrated.
$6,000,000.
Love the stretch she did just before she left the ring. Cat-like.
