Did I miss California Chrome somewhere on that list?

No. Don't think he bred any mares in 2016.

It always makes me a little sad to see some big names with less than 20 mares bred.

California Chrome only retired this year, so he wouldn't be on this list.

The Green Monkey with 2 mares bred, oof.

Is Giant's Causeway's book limited now? 48 mares seems awfully low for him.

I think the demand for him has decreased, but pretty sure he missed a significant portion of the 2016 season with physical issues. Will be interesting to see how many he bred this year.

They breed the snot out of their stallions, and as it turns it impacts them physically, and probably mentally. Also sperm count decreases.
It's a shitty thing to do. He's sired some really nice racehorses, and he was an incredible racehorse.

I went on a tour at Ashford last month and they mentioned that he was only covering a maximum of one mare a day, while even Tale of the Cat was covering a maximum of 2 a day and youngins like Uncle Mo were covering 3 a day.

Giant's Causeway is younger than Tale of the Cat, but he is still 20 years old. I'd say it is more physical limitations than lack of interest that limits his book.

Giant’s Causeway is a really slow breeder as well. Ashford actually was telling breeders that were sending their mares to Giant’s Causeway, to send their mares to Pharoah instead because Giant’s Causeway only breeds once a day.
