I'm sure his racing groom doesn't envy Gold Ship's stallion handlers (all 3 of them! At least they know what they are up against). I wonder if he is such a handful in a covering session. I personally wouldn't send a mare to him... when he wanted to run, he could beat anyone, but that brain of his got in the way so often.

Then again, I'm not a Japanese mare owner!

Mr Takatoshi Iwanami (thank you tachyon!

) also visited Gold Ship at Big Red Farm awhile back and IIRC he had just one handler in those photos... I'm not sure if the Sapporo track handlers were Gold Ship's usual people or not (I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but after the big stakes/graded races the winner is paraded by handlers not necessarily their own?) so that may have also contributed to the unfamiliar circumstances.

Given his pedigree, and as one of the last big-name Stay Gold sons, I think he'll enjoy some support at stud at least. We'll see if his foals can make better use of any inherited talent!

Gold Ship is so naughty. I hope his foals mostly inherit temperament from their dams.

Mr Takatoshi Iwanami was Gold Ship's only regular handler and his best friend.

It was just heartwarming that Gold Ship was reunited with Iwanami in front of his supporters at Sapporo yesterday. We all loved it.

And is Gold Ship a dangerous animal?
No way!
They say he is already a masterful stallion whose fertility rate has also been very high.

Into Mischief's Stud Fee Climbs to $100,000

A high demand for matings to Spendthrift Farm's marquee stallion Into Mischief pushed the price of his last block of seasons for 2018 to $100,000, according to Ned Toffey, Spendthrift's general manager.

All seasons available through the farm have now been sold with only a handful available through breeders who acquired lifetime breeding rights to the 12-year-old son of Harlan's Holiday early in his stud career.

"We initially priced him at $85,000 and that substantial block of seasons sold out almost immediately, just about as quick as we have ever had a horse sell out," Toffey said. Those seasons were essentially gone by the end of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale in early August.

"We opened up a small block of seasons at $100,000 and that has been sold out as well," he said, adding that Into Mischief's book has typically been filled by this point during the past several years. "I have no doubt that if we had priced him at $100,000 to begin with, he still would have sold out."

Sidney's Candy to continue his stallion career in Turkey

Sidney's Candy is to become the first son of Candy Ride to stand in Turkey after the Grade 1 winner was purchased by Turkish Bloodstock to stand at Karacabey Stud for the 2018 breeding season.

The ten-year-old has entered a 30-day quarantine at Elmendorf Farm near Lexington ahead of shipping to Turkey in mid-October.

Retired to WinStar Farm in 2012, Sidney's Candy also shuttled to Haras La Paison in Argentina from 2012-17. He is the sire of four black-type winners including Converge, Lencelot and Pluja at Graded level.

Anchor Down stands for $10k. Their credentials are not entirely dissimilar.

I remember when Mohaymen was considered the East's best three-year-old, and all the excitement when the West Coast's Nyquist came east for the Florida Derby. Some figured it matched the two colts who were going to be the favorites in the Kentucky Derby.
Then Nyquist just trounced the grey colt. I don't think Mohaymen ever recovered from that beating. Even as a four-year-old, when one might have hoped he would have grown/gotten stronger, he looked like a pale shadow of that horse we saw early last year. No fight left.

There are quite a few Tapits out there now. I don't think Mohaymen would be anywhere on the list of his sons I would choose for my mythical mare.

American Freedom Retired to Airdrie

American Freedom (Pulpit–Gottcha Last, by Pleasant Tap), winner of the 2016 GIII Iowa Derby and runner-up to Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song) in the GI Travers S., has been retired from the races and will enter stud for the 2018 breeding season at Brereton C. and Elizabeth Jones’s Airdrie Stud. He will command a first-season fee of $10,000, stands-and-nurses terms.
