Smarty Jones Returning to Uruguay

Dual classic winner Smarty Jones will return to Uruguay in September for the 2017 Southern Hemisphere breeding season as part of a multi-year agreement with Calumet Farm, where he's stood since 2016.

The 16-year-old son of Elusive Quality shuttled to Uruguay previously in 2011, 2012, and 2014. The current deal, brokered by Pablo Núñez and Sullivan Bloodstock, sends the 2004 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner to Raul Cazalas' Haras La Concordia Farm for this year and in 2018. There is an option to shuttle him a third year, according to Núñez. The farm near Montevideo also stands Ioya Bigtime, Trinniberg , and Brooklyn Boy.

Owners double down on Mucho Macho Man

Mucho Macho Man took Dean and Patti Reeves to the top of the sport during his ontrack career, highlighted by a win in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic. Now the Georgia-based owners are banking on their star runner getting them back there with his foals.

The Reeveses made their biggest market endorsement of Mucho Macho Man’s foals yet at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred yearling sale, buying a pair of youngsters by the 9-year-old son of Macho Uno for a combined $190,000.

The pair of New York-bred purchases brings the total Mucho Macho Man yearlings owned by the Reeveses to eight.

“He gives a lot of leg, a good body on them, and a lot of bone,” Dean Reeves said about Mucho Macho Man. “The people that have talked to me about their weanlings and yearlings have been very satisfied.”

Tapit Gets 100th Black-Type Winner
Gainesway's marquee stallion Tapit , a three-time leading North American sire, can add his 100th black-type stakes winner to his accomplishments.

This milestone came with a bit of a mystery because his official progeny performance record showed only 99 black-type stakes winners after his actual 100th winner, Blind Ambition, had crossed the wire first in the Quick Call Stakes Aug. 9 on the Saratoga Race Course turf.

Champion Almanzor Officially Retired To Stud Following Lackluster 4-Year-Old Debut
The 2016 Cartier 3-year-old champion Almanzor has officially been retired from racing, thoroughbreddailynews.com confirmed on Sunday. The son of Wootton Bassett had his 2017 debut delayed by an EHV-1 outbreak in trainer Jean-Claude Rouget's yard, and only beat one horse home in his first start as a 4-year-old in the G3 Prix Gontaut-Biron.
“After consultations with Jean-Claude Rouget and the partners, we have come to the difficult decision to retire Almanzor,” said Sylvain Vidal, representative of part owner Gerard Augustin-Normand. “We came into the year with great hopes and expectations for a successful campaign culminating in glory in the [G1 Prix de l']Arc de Triomphe. Unfortunately with the setback he has had, including the virus spread through the stable earlier this year, it is apparent that he would not be fit enough to challenge for the Arc this year.”
Almanzor retires with a record of eight wins from 11 starts, including victories in the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes and the Qipco Champion Stakes. He earned over US$3 million in his career.

Half brother to Uncle Mo to Join Climax Stallions

Editorial, a 3-year-old half-brother to top sire Uncle Mo , has been acquired by Climax Stallions and will join the stallion roster for the 2018 breeding season. Thes stud location and fee for Editorial are yet to be determined.

A son of War Front out of the Arch mare Playa Maya, Editorial retires with one win and a second-place finish from two starts. His victory came in a 7 1/2-furlong race on the Gulfstream Park turf June 15.

And today Orfevre(JPN) sired his first graded winner, as his 2yo filly Rock This Town(JPN)[o/o Stray Cat(JPN) by Storm Cat(USA)] won in the G3 Sapporo Nisai Stakes 1800m turf at Sapporo beating the boys.
He became the first first-crop-sire in Japan to sire grade stakes winner this year!

Maybe I'm just too cranky on this hot, muggy morning, but I don't find his behavior very funny. Let alone admirable.
That stallion is firing with bad intent. I don't envy his handlers; they need to manage him so he can be led around and keep him from hurting himself. All while trying to not get nailed by one of those kicks, or by a foreleg when he rears.
He's a gorgeous horse who clearly had a load of talent, so I know there are plenty of breeders sending mares to him. But....he's such a bastard. I'd be praying that he doesn't pass THAT on to his offspring.

I think there's a difference between finding an image amusing and condoning misbehavior. He was actually fairly well-behaved in the parading videos I've seen, although he did get restless when held at a standstill in the middle of the paddock surrounded by people (and no other horses) and did some cow-hopping and kicking. And it wasn't aimed at his handlers, he just wanted to be done.

I don't think there was any argument, either, that his mindset & antics on the track interfered with his talent. Hopefully the mares he was booked to will mellow that temperament in his get, but US breeders have done the same thing. Orfevre's filly Rock This Town is a fiesty one, too, but it didn't stop her winning...

Sorry you've got the heat & humidity too... it was 96F here already at 9am when I went out to water my dwarf fruit trees. Hope you can stay cool!

He is not firing off with bad intent. If he were, trust his head would be much lower to the ground or bracing against his handlers, and both his front feet would be firmly planted on the ground.
He's expressing his displeasure, and whilst I agree it is poor manners there's only so much they can do. I don't think they should set up the horse for failure by prolonging things that test his patience for instance, but I do not see any malice in his body language on any of those pictures.
