The horses seemed lethargic from the summer heat and loaded quietly, except for CIGARSHOP who was acting up but eventually settled down to the task. REAL QUIET briefly dueled with Cigarshop on the backstretch, but by then CIGARSHOP had found his stride and easily pulled away. Coming out of the final turn, CIGARSHOP found another gear, going on to win by 10 lengths. REAL QUIET prevailed in a stretch duel over DUSTY. DUSTY, racing off a three-peat, lost second by half a length. CATALINA, BLUNNY, RUFFIAN, THUNDER CAT, AND TIGER DANCER were never a factor and remained well distanced from the front runners.
