Maybe a breeding for the popular Uncle Mo became available and they had to move quickly to take advantage of the chance?

I loved her on the track. She could turn out nice foals.mariasmon wrote:Warren's Veneda --> Clubhouse Ride
I know the mare has no pedigree, but didn't she do enough to earn a bit better mating?
I agree, I was hoping for a better stallion.

At least a proven California stallion, I'd think?SSilence86 wrote:I loved her on the track. She could turn out nice foals.mariasmon wrote:Warren's Veneda --> Clubhouse Ride

I'm not a fan of it for multiple reasons but to each their own. I'm not a breeder so I guess I'm either going to be wrong or have a less one sided view, that's up to the viewer to decide.
Either way, we're talking about breeding and racing that same 3 year old filly who is young and growing herself. I say if you're going to do it, just retire her at least. Zayat reminds me of a "clueless, I can't make up my mind but I wanna pretend I know what I'm doing" stable owner I used to ride for.

Yes. I find this an odd choice.mariasmon wrote:At least a proven California stallion, I'd think?SSilence86 wrote:I loved her on the track. She could turn out nice foals.mariasmon wrote:Warren's Veneda --> Clubhouse Ride

Almost as odd a choice as breeding Tepin to Curlin

She'll be 4 when she foals. I think they should just retire her, though. Quit messing around.Kay16 wrote:mariasmon wrote:It's pretty common to breed 3YOs. I just don't see anything wrong with it.

Doesn't she race with lasix?mariasmon wrote:She'll be 4 when she foals. I think they should just retire her, though. Quit messing around.Kay16 wrote:mariasmon wrote:It's pretty common to breed 3YOs. I just don't see anything wrong with it.

Horses don't finish their growth before the age of 6. Not saying all mares should be at least 5 before being bred but the closer the better imho.mariasmon wrote:She'll be 4 when she foals. But yeah my primary comment was less about 'breeding her at 3' and more about the amalgam of bizarre decisions and factors which just happen to be partially related to her age: like why be in a rush to breed her then be undecided about running her? Why not give it another year either to see if she continues physically developing, or to book her and early breeding for an earlier foal? I know someone said maybe they pounced on an opening with Uncle Mo but given Zayat's ties to Coolmore through American Pharoah I don't think that booking the full sister of the only living American TC champion to Coolmore's US star would be any trouble.

I'm pretty sure one of the Zayats make a comment when she was 2, that to me at least, made it sound like they viewed her only as a very valuable walking uterus.Treve wrote:Horses don't finish their growth before the age of 6. You have defined "broodmare."Flanders wrote:I'm pretty sure one of the Zayats make a comment when she was 2, that to me at least, made it sound like they viewed her only as a very valuable walking uterus.Treve wrote:Horses don't finish their growth before the age of 6. IIRC, from the elbows up, she really resembled 'Pharoah. Unfortunately, her legs were only long enough to reach the ground.
Maybe the connections have kept her training to see if she'd grow a little, but the last photo I saw showed a filly who still looks like a short AP.
She showed some talent and will to win, but she got a bit shortchanged (pun intended) on those legs.
She'll make a fine broodmare with her genetics.

She also was a bit tankier morw sprinter like at least in the hindquarters than AP. But yeah the short legs. And to be honest I think after her third start as a 2 yo the experience might've soured her on racing. Iirc she bled through her lasix.
