I've always wondered about setting stud fees in SA where the purses are generally much lower.

I know that the fees are lower for stallions shuttling to Australia so it would make sense to have lower fees for South America.

It's hard to compare the purses, though. I follow Aus racing, but not racing in South America, and Australian racing has pretty good purses, not to mention the 2nd largest racing economy in the world. Their top stallions are also standing for six figures in AUS dollars/high five figures in USD.

Yes of course, I just mean it's not only a matter of purses but also a matter of what the market will tolerate. From what I've noticed it seems that some (not all) of the stallions who stand in the Northern Hemisphere will stand at a lower price in Australia. IIRC while MDO stands for six figs in Australia as well as here he stands for several k (if not tens of k) lower there, or he did for his last season.

That headline is so 'Ew,' that I don't even want to read the article.

If this actually happened with a TB stallion, I'm not sure how anyone could 'cash in' on those ill-gotten...um...gains.

The Jockey Club requires live cover to register a TB racehorse, and paperwork to verify the actual horses involved. I think there's even DNA testing these days?

Trying to remember what Grand Reward started out at in Argentina (or what he is now). He was getting some real good horses earlier, but has tailed off. He now has sons at stud- and Angiolo(ARG) will probably take Freshman Sire honors there.

California Sire Decarchy Euthanized

Steadily producing California sire Decarchy was euthanized late last week due to complications from laminitis.

The 20-year-old son of Distant View hailed from one of Thoroughbred industry's most successful mares—Toussaud, who was also the dam of elite runners and producers Empire Maker , Chester House, Chiselling, and Honest Lady.

"He was a blue-collar horse, but with his runners, you always got a check," said Tom Hudson with Magali Farms, where Decarchy stood his entire stallion career.

This has been a terrible year for California's breeders.

In addition to Decharchy, they've lost Heatseeker, Lucky Pulpit, the great Unusual Heat and Benchmark, although the latter two were due to old age.

Speaking has a Californian of 40 years, it has been a very tough year for Cal breeders. But maybe some of this guy's kids can help the industry a few years from now as Chrome, himself, has already done.

I was able to visit Magali Farms several years ago and see their stallions pulled out just for our visit. Decarchy was such a handsome boy... my other two faves were Mr. Broad Brush (who stayed behind the nice tall stallion fence in his paddock

) and Lit de Justice, who were were actually able to pet because he was laid-back and mellow.

Not a lot of people in our group followed racing, so they didn't know much about Toussaud, but for me it was like being in the presence of royalty.

Fusaichi Seven(JPN)[2006H. Fusaichi Pegasus(USA) x Divorce Testimony(CAN) by Vice Regent(CAN)] sired his first winner with his first starter, when his 2yo colt Susan Don(JPN)[o/o Gran Joy(JPN) by Dance in the Dark(JPN)] won on debut easily going 1200m turf at Kokura R5 Newcomer on August 13th 2017.

Fusaichi Seven(JPN), known as a racehorse who had to be transferred to Susumu Hayashi as his ex-owner Fusao Sekiguchi went bankrupt in 2011, has been standing at Yushun Stallion Station.
He only covered 7 mares in 2014 to have 4 registered foals in 2015.

I personally don't know, but one would have to assume for the same reason he'd attract only a handful of mares here. Group 2/3 winner, son of a decent but not stellar sire, not known as a sire of sires....
