Wow. Wouldn't have guessed that.
I'm guessing the decision was made before they knew how good Always Dreaming was going to be. Still, she was already the dam of a G1W. Unfortunately, she didn't produce a foal from her 2016 mating to Honor Code :(
I thought she had a foal, but it died? Such a shame.

I haven't pulled a produce report for her, but there is some kind of no foal report in for her. So the foal must've been stillborn or died before S/N. I probably should've said she didn't produce a LIVE foal.

I mean there were so many choices. Oh well. Watch the foal be a champion and any time she sees Galileo/Frankel/etc it's a dud.

I've had several hours for it to sink in and I still can't believe they sent her to Curlin.

He is, but not as a turf sire. I know Tepin has won on the dirt, but obviously she was much better on the turf.

They might not necessarily be looking at matching surface types but rather distance types, how much speed/stamina the horse carried, temperament etc.

Might not be wanting to breed her towards turf. They may be a physical match. And, I think Curlin has a pedigree that could go either way - Smart Strike could go either way as a sire.

Could be. I don't know much about her conformation, but I hope she has straight legs because Curlin throws some crooked babies.

Mr. Masterson also mentioned in the press release that he only wanted to have Tepin covered once, and if she didnt take, they would wait till next year. So he was looking for stallions that had an especially high rate of getting mares in foal on the first go, which Curlin apparently does.
