I get that it is a business and if they sold Henrythenavigator and Duke of Marmalade they dont have any sentimental attachment, and that CC hasnt exactly set the world on fire... but geeze, he was one great racehorse. Money talks but I am surprised no other smaller stud in Europe took him on

International Sire Elusive Quality Pensioned

Elusive Quality , a champion sire and world-record breaker, has been retired from stud duty, Darley announced June 21.

The 24-year-old son of Gone West was the second stallion to stand in America for Sheikh Mohammed, who campaigned him. Though Elusive Quality didn't win a grade 1, he produced several high-level performances that included breaking a track record at Gulfstream Park and setting a world record going a mile on the grass at Belmont Park.

"Elusive Quality has had two great careers, but it's the right time for him just to relax and take it easy here at Jonabell," said Dan Pride, chief operating officer for Godolphin in America. "But given the success of his current sons at stud, along with the production from his daughters, his will certainly be a legacy that will last for quite some time."

Just saw that Norumbega was euthanized earlier this month due to complications from colic. He has 14 mares confirmed in foal.

Just because they don't have a webpage doesn't mean anything. I easily found who owned him in under a minute. I don't think anyone else wanted to buy him, sure he had a good start at stud but was a complete failure. It made sense to sell him to Russia because he has had some success with runners there.

I have a question about Storm Bird.

When my husband and I visited Coolmore many moons ago, the man we spoke with, who spent over 1.5 hours taking us all over the farm, told us Storm Bird was a dangerous stallion and they kept 2 ax handles at the gate just in case. They said nobody really wanted to deal with his psychotic temper.

Yet in doing some research, I find this picture and caption saying he was as gentle as kitten. The quote below the photo says:

So gentle was Storm Bird that even the very young were allowed to visit him. He quickly endeared himself to the whole O’Brien family. Then, in early in 1981, the colt suffered an ugly assault at Ballydoyle: a disgruntled employee got into his stall and slashed off his mane and tail. Although Storm Bird appeared to recover, everything went wrong in his 3 year-old season. A brilliant racing career had come to an abrupt end.

They say he had his mane and tail shaved but surely that would not make him a nutter. I can't imagine people allowing their child to play in front of him if he was dangerous, since I think this is one of the O'Brien children.

Maybe the 'disgruntled employee' had to forcibly restrain the colt in order to shave the mane. And someone trying to 'slash' off a tail could have caused him to cut into the tip of the tailbone, which would have been very painful.
I might have been very distrustful of humans after that.

Not sure if this should go here or in California Chrome's own thread, but here is a very informative article about how successful his stud career has been after his one breeding season in Kentucky. He's been a very willing and virile breeder and gotten about 90% of his mares in foal. The quality of his mares has been very good. The article also discusses how important Chrome has become to Taylor Made.

Hard Spun(USA) sired his first winner as a first-crop-sire-in-Japan, when his 2yo colt Kitano Yuki(JPN)[o/o Wing of Peace(USA) by Fusaichi Pegasus(USA)] won in his debut at Hakodate 5R Newcomer 1000m turf on July 1st 2017.

Kitano Yuki's dam Wing of Peace(USA), raced by Masatake Iida in Japan, was sent to the US to be covered by Fusaichi Pegasus(USA) in 2007.
Third dam Sixieme Sens(USA), a multiple graded winner in the US, had been imported to Japan in 1998.

wow, missed that note on Corinthian.

I'd had high hopes for him when he went to stud. If you'd looked at him vs Tapit at the start, you'd have been hard pressed to guess one would fail as poorly as one excelled.

I hate seeing Paddy' leave. I thought he was doing decently as a sire, and IMHO you can't go wrong with the El Prado line.
