I try to follow news about Chrome very closely. He has been doing great in the shed and getting his mares in foal. I think his first book is about 140-160. Somewhere there was a partial list of some of the mares bred to him, but I don't know where to find it again. Some very nice mares in his first book. He will shuttle to Chile ( :( ) sometime in June after our breeding season is over.

Taylor Made bought three mares outright to breed to the stallions standing at their farm, and they have invited the public to participate in selecting one of the mares to breed to Chrome. Here's an Apr. 28 article about it: http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/ta ... Nw.twitter

He's happy, healthy, getting tons of visitors (and cookies), and has been well-received by breeders. Can't ask for more than that at this stage of his stud career.

She was such a lovely filly, I hadn't heard that she had been recently retired. She is in my top 5 of "Most fun horse names to say out loud" :D Alongside Al Mamun Monlau and Ela Mana Mou

I'm guessing the decision was made before they knew how good Always Dreaming was going to be. Still, she was already the dam of a G1W. Unfortunately, she didn't produce a foal from her 2016 mating to Honor Code :(

I believe her owner picked out Nyquist as a yearling or something like that, so perhaps that is the reason for her being sent to him this year.

Yeah, the article did mention that. Good point!

When that first hit my inbox, my only reaction was, "EW." That was followed by, "Why?" and then, "ew," again.

I will second that 'Why?' and follow with 'what were they thinking?' :?
Tepin was one of best turf mares we have seen in recent years, but....they chose to breed her to a big, hulking dirt stallion?
I do not get it. :(

I had the same reaction as well. Wish they would have saved her for Frankel or Galileo. I hope Tepin isn't crooked because Curlin throws some crooked foals.

I fourth all of the "Wtf-ing" I'm guessing they're breeding to sell.
I suppose since she was retired on short notice Frankel or Galileo might not have worked out for this year regardless, but why not Hat Trick? He's sired blacktype winners around the world on turf, he's right there in Kentucky. I understand wanting to avoid an unproven sire like Flintshire or Tourist.
But even as far as dirt studs go there would have been far more interesting choices of stallions in the same or similar (or even less!) price range that would have been better physical and pedigree matches.
Ah well, they better hope for some straight legs if they're breeding to sell.

I don't think she would've had any trouble getting to MDO or Kitten's Joy, even that late, and they're both G1 turf sires. Sadler's Wells over Storm Cat has done well. Case-in-point being Giant's Causeway's sister You'resothrilling + Galileo.

And, as someone else pointed out, HnD has been known to purchase high-profile mares at auction that they board/consign. Since the current owner at least claims he hasn't decided what he's going to do with her long-term, it can't hurt. But I think a War Front or Tapit cover would've been more popular overall, with most potential buyers.

MDO maybe not, doesn't he tend to have a full book? Kitten's Joy though, hadn't thought of him but yeah could've worked well too.
I'm sure an MDO filly out of Tepin could have lit up the board at auction.

They will make room for a Tepin type of mare, trust me.
