I guess that explains it but still when you have that quality of horse...
In short, it was fortunate that Lani was owned by Koji Maeda.
Koji Maeda is a longtem owner / breeder who knows perfectly how prestigious the Kentucky Derby is.
It's unlucky that Epicharis is not owned by a single owner like Koji Maeda but by a club -- ''Carrot Club''.
I'm not an expert on this kind of issue, but I suspect that the representative of the club should take all of the club members needs into to consideration.
Then, sigh, MONEY can talk...

Dubai offered huge incentives as usual.
NYRA is set to give a $1 million bonus to any Japan-based thoroughbred who competes in and wins the Belmont Stakes this year, too.

I had forgotten about the bonus. But it makes sense, Japanese horses have done well and even won in Belmont preps and the Belmont itself.
Still there should be a bonus for running in all three legs ;) And I wish they'd at least shipped directly to the US post-Dubai. Not only to get the horse acclimated but then they'd have the real choice as to go to the Derby or not.

I do hope that the winner of the KY Derby point series in Japan next year will SKIP Dubai and ship straight to the US to have a prep race in the US before the KY Derby. ;)

It becomes more likely that Epicharis(JPN) will ship to the US. :D
Carrot Club has invited members to participate in a package tour for the Belmont Stakes.

Neo Universe and his son, Neorealism, are both very handsome horses. I'm so proud of the great Sunday Silence and how wonderfully the Japanese have ensured his legacy.

Wow, what happened to Karakurenai??? I mean yes she was stuck along the rail there, but when she got out the jockey just eased her, they never made a run??

No detraction from the winner, she's a lovely big filly and that was a very good run. But what a disappointment for Karakurenai. : ( (And Mi Suerte, who was never in it.)

I watched the TVG Classic replay of the 2005 American Oaks a couple of days ago, and have to say I don't think I've ever seen a more stunningly beautiful TB filly in my life than Cesario. Wow.

This seemed like the best thread to mention it in.
