I've seen some of her prep workouts via Twitter... soooo impressive!!!
Maybe we need to restart the Japan Racing thread we had way back before the (most recent) crash...? Didn't we used to have one?

Very, very impressive. My heart has a Maurice shaped void in it and I am always looking for the next Japanese sensationuma_nosuke wrote:Some more about the rising star, Fan Dii Na, in Japan

Re: Awardee vs. Lani, I give Awardee the advantage. He won't win it, but you're hard pressed to find a horse more consistent than him, especially when compared to his hooligan younger brother.

Lani.
Honestly, if that brat were an American-trained horse, he'd have been gelded...like last year.
I know he's a nicely-bred Tapit, and he won a UAE Derby - for what that's worth - but he's not that good. At least, IMHO not good enough to justify putting up with his bad behavior. I watched the Al Maktoum Challenge, which is supposed to be a prep for the World Cup, and he was a frigging bastard to load.
He repeatedly refused and, every time one of the gate crew just touched him, he blasted with one or both hind legs...and there was bad intent there. Allah bless that Meydan gate crew, because I think a few of them came far too close to Paradise that night.
And when the race started, he barely ran. I watched his rider work like the devil on him, but he just didn't want to run. Barely caught up with some stragglers in the stretch.
Maybe there's some talent there, but he's sure not showing it. Gelding him might actually get his mind on being a racehorse, and stop all his studdish and dangerous behaviors.
I know, I know...his Japanese connections won't do that. The Japanese seem very permissive with their bad actors, and crazy behavior on-track just appears to create fans. Also, standing a G1-winning son of Tapit is attractive....although IMO breeders would be better off with Creator, who is a better racehorse.

Fine Motion(IRE), a 1/2 sister to the champion Pilsudski(IRE), was infertile, unfortunately.
She has been pensioned at Fushikida Bokujo (Farm) in Hokkaido now.
Here's the replay of the QE2 Commemorative Cup (G1) in 2002

I think Deep Impact qualifies as a well-known horse, so Fan Dii Na definitely has her place here.
She is gobsmackingly impressive!

Thanks for sharing! There are definitely few better places to retire than Hokkaido.tachyon wrote:Glad you remember Fine Motion!!starrydreamer wrote:Oh Fine Motion! She was so wonderful. Whatever happened to her? Has she had any foals?tachyon wrote:

We may be able to see Vivlos, the winner of Dubai Turf, at Breeder's Cup Filly & Mare Turf in Del Mar in November.

I was going to mention something about that yesterday. The tweet I saw was from G @LongBallToNoOne who said Sasaki was pointing CHEVAL GRAND (a colt) to the Breeders Cup Turf. The owner of VIVLOS and CHEVAL GRAND is Kazuhiro Sasaki, a former star closer for the Seattle Mariner's. G's tweet added Sasaki prefers the Breeders Cup as Japan has already won the Melbourne Cup plus Randy Johnson said he will go watch the race if he comes to the USA . Johnson aka "The Big Unit" is a HOFer who pitched 10 years with the Mariner's. Caught my eye as a big Mariner's fan, lol.lurkey mclurker wrote:This could be so exciting too!

Yes!! There was an adorable pic of him hugging Cheval Grand in the winner's circle - I didn't see that he was Vivlos' owner too!

Vexatious, full sister to Creative Cause and Destin, who finished a closing 3rd to Battle of Midway and Reach the World earlier this month, is entered in the Fairground Oaks on April 1. Maybe Drysdale figured it would be better for his filly to get her Oaks prep against a field that doesn't have Unique Bella in it.

Bill of Rights, full brother to Colonel John and Mr. Hot Stuff, is up for adoption at New Vocations. If anyone wants a ridiculously handsome trail horse he can be yours for $250.
