What might make him a reasonable choice (for a turf horse) for a race like the Pegasus is because he has speed. If he can handle the brown stuff (over which I would hope O'Brien will try training him before shipping him off to Florida), he has a dangerous combination; speed and stamina.

What a brilliant and consistent sort Maurice is. I hope he does well at stud.

Also I still can't believe how badly A Shin Hikari has tailed off since his terrific win in the Prix d'Ispahan.

One of these heading off to stud at the height of his career; the other finds retirement almost mercifully.

There's a video (horse kicking moron to the ground?) of a blue roan horse being lead on the street, maybe in some sort of a parade. I'm almost positive that the animal is a Gypsy Horse, or Gypsy Cob...and you really have to be incredibly annoying and stupid to aggravate one of those horses enough to kick like that. :o Even the stallions are very laid back.

That's neat; thanks for sharing. I'm particularly intrigued by the spinning antics of Hakusan Moon.

Though most of us I'm sure know his story, I still thought this was a nice article.

Barbara Livingson shared a photo of Sunday Silence I had never seen before -- with Arthur Hancock before he shipped to Japan. The photo was taken by Tony Leonard:

That's devastating news.
Gold Allure(JPN) was one of the most influential sons of Sunday Silence(USA) and by far the best successor on the dirt.

And... today... his sons won determinedly both in the G1 February Stakes 1800m dirt and in the Kenturky Derby trial Hyacinth Stakes!!!
It did look like both Gold Dream(JPN) and Epicharis(JPN) knew they had to win to pray for their sire.
Hope they will ship to the US!!!!!

That was certainly a Gold Allure day.

Gold Allure is an important stallion. Beautifully bred and a grand-looking horse. Has the news of his passing been confirmed? That one Facebook page does not make it clear.

The Paulick article about Epicharis' win mentions Gold Allure, so I have to assume it's official. :(

Epicharis was bred in Japan by Masatsugu Kamada and is by Gold Allure, the recently deceased son of Sunday Silence. He is owned by U Carrot Farm and trained by Kiyoshi Hagiwara, and was ridden to victory by Christophe Lemaire.

It was confirmed by other Japanese Twitter posts as well.

And more from the Japan Times:
Sunday’s victory also turned out to be a fitting tribute to Gold Dream’s sire Gold Allure, who unexpectedly died of heart failure a day earlier.

Is it strange that we have lost three stallions...Fame and Glory, Lucky Pulpit, Gold Allure...to heart failure within the last week?

I don't know if we're just more aware of it due to the internet or if this is unusual, but either way, it's very sad.

Well, like any other *cough* cardiovascular activity, I suppose breeding can be strenuous and it's not unheard of to lose stallions in/around the process of covering mares. "Older" stallions, at least, those in their teens (which really doesn't seem that old to me, but what do I know)... and when you've had the winter off and breeding season starts up again, a cluster of deaths might seem unusual but essentially be a result of suddenly increased activity.
