RR - Over on the Bloodhorse.com thread about Lucky Pulpit's passing, someone keeps insisting that Rockingham did this without notifying Harris Farms and seeking agreement.
SD - But for breeders who are more cash strapped and can't afford for their mares to be open for a season, at least they have a free option.
I didn't want to be the cynic, but it's clear that other people have pointed out the less-than-charitable aspects of Rockingham's offer. If any breeder, who originally planned to breed to Lucky Pulpit, takes his/her mare to Finnegan's Wake instead, that means a loss of business for Harris.
Rockingham framed their offer in a sweet way but, from Harris Farm's point of view, losing any mare to a different farm probably isn't a welcome development.

Lucky Pulpit got 44 mares last year, so I don't think his book would be too much different this year. They didn't change his fee for this year, did they?

If his fee is Live Foal Guarantee, then nobody pays until their mare has a live foal, right?BlindLucky wrote:Lucky Pulpit got 44 mares last year, so I don't think his book would be too much different this year. They didn't change his fee for this year, did they?

I just realized that i read BlindLucky's post wrong. I thought she asked, "They didn't charge his fee for this year, did this?" Not change. This is what happens when I post while sick.TBird wrote:Yes.starrydreamer wrote:If his fee is Live Foal Guarantee, then nobody pays until their mare has a live foal, right?BlindLucky wrote:Lucky Pulpit got 44 mares last year, so I don't think his book would be too much different this year. News from the stallion world lately has been very tough. I am planning a trip to Kentucky in May and had hoped to see Charismatic and Tinners Way. Hold on Tin old boy. Please. Sigh.TapitsGal wrote:Bad day. Posted over on in memoriam thread charismatic collapsed and died suddenly this morning

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Tin is getting up there and looked his age back in December.Ridan_Remembered wrote:News from the stallion world lately has been very tough. Thank you. I saw Tinners Way racing and winning on the SoCal circuit. He was a fine racehorse. Wished he had been a successful sire, but at least he has lived a long life.bare it all wrote:Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Yes, he is!!!!!Ridan_Remembered wrote: Duramente is a fiery guy, isn't he. Just so full of himself and a handful to manage, but the gentleman who showed him remained totally calm.
Of those new stallions who enter stud in Japan this year, I especially look forward to Duramente(JPN)(King Kamehameha) and Maurice(JPN)(Screen Hero).
I'm pretty sure that both will become major stallions.

Some nice pics of a happy Gold Ship in his snowy paddock - the middle photo cracks me up.

IIRC, Duramente was retired due to an injury. Maybe it's something that hasn't completely healed? Or has left him with a permanent hitch in his giddy-up?

He looks pretty lame in his front left, which is the one he injured in June, which led to his retirement. I am surprised to see him still so sore on it, but him carrying on and spinning on it probably isn't helping
It sounds like it was a very serious injury, though. His owner, Shunsuke Yoshida, said "I was prepared for the worst and that he would die. I'm sure he will be a sire now as his pedigree is excellent."

Kudos to his handler in that Stallion Parade video!
