well, so far, between rachel and zen, i wouldn't breed to the boys of either of them. zen's can't outrun a hibernating turtle (tho her tapit isn't quite as sluggish as her other), and rachel's couldn't stay together to race more than once.

i guess we'll see how it goes in the shed, but...

At least for Jess's Dream I can see enough upside to give him a shot in a regional program. He has a reasonably strong family to back him up.... By a 2xHoTY who is currently becoming one of the hot sires of the moment, out of a HoTY who already produced a G1 winner out of 2 foals to race (and whose 2 foals are both winners), and his half sister is a 2yo G1 winner.

I remember seeing a yearling photo of Jess's Dream and thinking his legs looked like a tragedy waiting to happen. I guess he just couldn't grow out of them. Hopefully he doesn't pass that on though. If I were a FL breeder I'd definitely consider him but would want to wait to see what his first foals look like.

As much as I love Zenyatta....no. Just no. If either/or/both haven't already been gelded, it needs to happen. >.<

if i were a breeder, i would definitely not be brave enough to be the first one in on jess. i've heard curlin is crooked, and if that's true, and he passed it on to jess (who was obviously in worse shape as curlin ran 16 times, and at top level), well. someone else can be first

I don't think I've seem a more unfortunate-looking stallion prospect.
Along with the crooked front legs, he's also shallow through the chest. His hindquarters don't look very strong, his back legs seem rather straight and those pasterns appear a bit upright.
I wouldn't breed to him with someone else's money.
At least Zen's boys, slow though they may be, are put together well. They may make fine mounts...in some other competitive discipline...while I would be afraid to ride JD at more than a walk in a well-groomed pony-ride ring..

Jess's Dream-he had a tough delivery and beginning, as I recall, as did Rachel. Remember they went to the hospital for a couple days.Then I vaguely remember Rachel didn't know quite what to do with him.

OK, I missed that at first. Still, would his shoulders grow deeper? Or is bone structure pretty well set by the time a TB reaches that age?
Guess I need to wait on his updated, mature stallion portrait before final judgement.

Sorry to read about Nyquist. That poor colt seems to have been under a Bad Moon ever since the Triple Crown.

This is a photo of Jess's Dream from this past June. He looks a lot better in this photo than in that yearling shot. Even though he's wearing leg wraps, his legs look ok to me, although it's possible he toes out some. Hard to say for sure from just one unposed photo.

Those wraps just need to stay on forever in every picture all the time. Too bad it cant be extended to those pasterns or up the back legs.

A hind leg that is straight, as in not much angulation (ie, post-legged) is generally not.

Heatseeker Euthanized Following Paddock Accident

Harris Farms' multiple graded stakes-winning stallion Heatseeker was euthanized Dec. 27 at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the University of California-Davis after he was discovered in his paddock with a broken left femur.

The 13-year-old son of Giant's Causeway began his stud career in 2008 at Hill 'n' Dale Farms in Central Kentucky before relocating to Harris Farms near Coalinga, Calif., for the 2012 breeding season. He stood for $5,000 this year.

I don't know that Bloodhorse picked up his sale. I think I saw it on Paulick Report more toward the beginning of 2016. I was hoping he'd do well but besides Lady Eli, he didn't sire much.
