Canadian champ Lexie Lou going to Frankel, then to Japan
Lexie Lou, Canada's 2014 Horse of the Year, was bought by the Nakamura family's K I Farm of Japan late during Tuesday's session for $1 million.

The Nakamura family bred and co-campaigned Lord Kanaloa, Japan's 2013 Horse of the Year.

Representatives for K I Farm said plans called for Lexie Lou to ship to England to be bred to two-time European Horse of the year and white-hot young sire Frankel in 2017. Future matings will be with Lord Kanaloa, who stands at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan.

While celebrating a very deserved G1 win for Gun Runner, @DJFiske informs that champion Untapable will be bred to Frankel for 2017.

I guess when you have a champion mare by the champion North American sire, you have to go elsewhere for a covering. Do the Winchells race in Europe at all, and/or do they sell yearlings often? This seems like a cross that would be popular at the sales, or European ones at least.

Fiske stated that plans call for Untapable to head to The National Stud in Newmarket and that the daughter of Tapit will likely remain in Europe for two seasons.

"I think it will probably be Frankel both years ... unless they take Arrogate over there and stand him or something," Fiske said. "(Owner) Ron (Winchell's) concern was 'We'll probably get a turf horse' and that's not our thing. But if it's pretty, it will be valuable and that is our thing. Who knows if it will be a turf horse or not? I don't think Frankel is getting a lot opportunities on dirt. There are so many North American horses in those pedigrees, who knows (what he might throw)."

In today's TDN:
“Hopefully, after having a healthy foal, she will be bred back to Frankel [in 2018],” Winchell said. “Both Untapable and foal will then fly back home to the U.S.”
“The plan is to keep both foals and race them on dirt here in the U.S.,” Winchell continued. “Trying a Frankel on the dirt here in the U.S. might be considered a bit of an experiment. With that said, when reviewing all the options for Untapable, this was the only one that sounded exciting. Sometimes doing something out of the box yields a good reward. Only time will tell.”

She matches well with him on paper, and he is definitely the hot sire right now outside of Tapit.

I think it's a a good match too (on paper). I'd like to see how they match up physically.
