Not that she'd ever go to an unproven stallion...

Gio Ponti was 2nd in the BC Classic to Zenyatta and 2nd in the BC Mile to Goldikova. His son, Defrong, just won the BC G1 Sprint! That's a versatile stallion.

He was well supported in his first couple years. I think breeders got scared when he didn't get precocious 2yos. All 3 of his stakes winners won at 3 after the breeding season ended. He only got 21 mares this year though.Sparrow Castle wrote:Gio Ponti was 2nd in the BC Classic to Zenyatta and 2nd in the BC Mile to Goldikova. His son, Defrong, just won the BC G1 Sprint! Oh I know. The breed to sell part of the industry is so impatient. That's why I'm so excited for him that he got a BC winner in his first crop. I really like this guy.Flanders wrote:He was well supported in his first couple years. I think breeders got scared when he didn't get precocious 2yos. BC winner and a Queen's Plate winner in his first crop. That's pretty good for a first crop, and you'd expect his runners to improve with age.

Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist has been retired from racing and will start his breeding career at German Gestüt Röttgen next year.
One breeding will be offered at auction through the BBAG Sales Company, with the full amount that is raised going to the Freddie Tylicki fund.

I'm not sure I'd really put him into the group of horses who were only good 2yos (not saying you did). He only got three starts post-injury and was group placed in two of them. I'm really disappointed about this retirement. I was hoping he'd get transferred to a U.S. trainer for a 4yo campaign when he shipped to Ashford after the Breeders' Cup.Retrospectiv wrote:Hit It A Bomb to Spendthrift.

Not nearly as disappointing as Air Force Blue or War Command... I think I'm seeing a trend...Retrospectiv wrote:Hit It A Bomb to Spendthrift.

Interesting from a sire who didn't break his maiden at 2, and did his best running at 4. Certainly isn't hurting his sales figures.....and he's a leading sire of 2yr olds again this year.

Wow.....didn't see this one coming.
Coolmore buys Champs Elysees from Juddmonte, to stand him as National Hunt sire.

I wonder if Coolmore sold Henrythenavigator. He's not on their roster anymore and he's been for sale for awhile now. Anyone know?Retrospectiv wrote:Wow.....didn't see this one coming.
