Don't know how it happened, but Gold Serenade got off my VS.

Not a great debut as she finished far back in the twelve-horse field.

She was making up ground on the rail coming into the lane, then a wall of horses in front of her, she may have gotten stopped. What a tiny thing she is. Hopefully, she gets a smaller field next time.

Agreed. I know Keeneland is a prestigious meet and we expect top stables to run their well-bred youngsters there, but...
IMHO, it's not always the best spot for their first race experience. The large fields create crowded conditions, there always seems to be chaos and traffic trouble, and the stretch is short. Hard to get an accurate read on some horses' potential when the race ends up being kind of a toss out.

I'm guessing we'll see her at Churchill during their meet and it will suit her much better. I'm not sure if they ran her on turf because they really think that's what she wants or that's the race she could get into (or maybe they just wanted her to go long). I wouldn't mind seeing her try dirt. The pedigree is versatile.

She did have some acceleration when asked, just a lot of horses around. Good learning experience for her. IIRC- only Grand Reward and Harlington broke their maiden at first asking. All of Serena's babies have gotten to the races- which is quite a feat in and of itself.

Thanks for that great shot! I saw that tail going back and forth in the post parade and she looked very animated.
When I went to see Serena last year at Denali- they nicknamed this one "Mini Me". She really does look very much like her dam, the star on her head is larger, however.

Heavenly Grace is entered to run on October 16, 2016, at BELMONT PARK.

This filly is Havre de Grace's first foal and this is an early entry for her first start. She's had a couple of good works leading up.

As noted in the article, another filly making her debut in this spot is Orchestrate, a full sister to champion Folklore.

Primo Rivera, a full brother to Close Hatches, makes his second start on Wednesday at Keeneland. He raced once for Juddmonte, finished last in that race and was sold privately after that. He's not the fastest thing ever but may be in a more realistic class here ($15k claimer).

Heavenly Grace finished third, with Ladies Day (Bernardini - Connie Belle/Storm Cat) far in front of the next two. But HG had a pretty rough trip...she was making up ground when she got sandwiched and body-slammed between two other horses. She should improve off this race, so long as she wasn't terribly put off by the experience.
