Barbados Oaks

Here's a fun exercise in futility!
Does anybody have information on the Barbados Oaks? I've got the other Barbados Triple Crown races, except all the winners of the Barbados Fillies' Guineas (and pedigrees are hard to come by, but I did find a Barbados Stud Book online, so I might find a few here & there from recent years). But I know the Barbados Oaks exists. Or existed. It can't all be in my head. I found a filly that finished second in the Barbados Oaks, for crying out loud, but can't find who beat her!
The race, at one point at least, was called the Sir Michael Stoute Barbados Oaks.
I also found a Philippines Stud Book and a Cyprus Stud Book and I'm getting cross-eyed looking through them.

Durrr...
I had them already. In my Excel spreadsheet, no less, and in bloodlines.net.

I have JAMAICA and TRINIDAD classic histories complete (I think).
I am still searching for BARBADOS Fillies Guineas and BARBADOS Oaks winners. I could also use some Aleve, but meanwhile I'm going to look through some old stuff I have printed out and maybe I have something. Otherwise I'm going to have to resume pleading with anybody involved with the Barbados Jockey Club for information. Considering the lack of luck I've had with Belgium and other Jockey Clubs, I'm not holding my breath for replies.
Ugh.

So, apparently the Barbados Oaks is not restricted to 3YO fillies? I found the following article that talks about Border Secret winning it 2 years in a row.

At this point, nothing will surprise me! LOL!
I'm always disappointed when classic races (like the Irish & French St. Leger) are opened up to older horses. Not that the Triple Crowns in Ireland or France are really sought by anybody any more (unless I'm wrong...?), but it just seems... sad. I dunno. I'm a purist. Why even call it an Oaks any more, if it's not for 3-year old fillies?

So, you've probably already found this...
I found an article about the Fillies Guineas, stating that the inaugural running was in 2004. The last mention of the Oaks is from 2009. I'm wondering if the Oaks was phased out, in favor of the Fillies Guineas?
What years are you missing the Fillies Guineas winners?
Also, have you messaged the Barbados Turf Club on Facebook? Their page seems fairly up to date. I also found a page for Racing Scene, which has racing info from Barbados.
I'm glad I took a look at this, because I found a son of Grand Reward while looking through results. (Of course, I also found that someone in Barbados likes Harry Potter, as there's a Sirius Black and a Voldemort racing there!)

For the Fillies' Guineas, I'm missing:
2005, 2007, 2009, 2015
It'd almost be a relief, at this point, that the Barbados Oaks was phased out. I'm gotch-eyed from trying to find even a smidgen of info about it.
I've posted at the Barbados Turf Club Facebook page. We'll see if there's ever a result.
(If you wants tons of posts at Facebook about my home town's local cemetery and it's recent deplorable condition, you'll never be at a loss of information!)

Maddening...
The Barbados Fillies' Guineas winner in 2013 is listed in various sources as Vanity Affair. The Barbados Stud Book online says her name is Vanity Fair. I think I'll call her 'Headache', but at least I found her pedigree.

The bigger question is why does she have a different sire in Equineline vs the Barbados Stud Book but the same dam and the same year of birth.Miesque1973 wrote:Maddening...

According to the bottom of this article: http://www.nationnews.com/nationnews/ne ... ith-stable
I've found Janak mentioned as the sire of Vanity Affair twice.

I also contacted the Barbados Turf Club on Facebook. We'll see if they respond.

Has there been any headway on finding those Barbados Oaks & Fillies' Guineas winners?

Yeah. Weird how nobody wants to share information about anything. Belgium won't respond (and they barely have flat racing at all anyway, and seem to not care about the history of the sport at all). Kenya won't respond (begging didn't help, either). You'd think all that stuff was a secret or (which I think would be ridiculous) all that information has been lost or just never kept track... of. Ahem.
Queries to various tracks in the US for information on local Derby/Oaks races usually comes up bupkiss, too, but I got responses from tracks in Oregon & Washington state (and they were VERY nice about it, too!). I snatch up media guides whenever I can, but most tracks don't have media guides ("no budget for such a thing" was the gist of one response I got). They just don't keep records. Why they can't beats me all to pieces.
<sigh>
(I just found a media guide, in fact, for Pimlico/Laurel. Wunnerful info, even if most of it was already entered in PQ)
I keep wondering if everybody that owns American Racing Manuals could get together and just complete American stakes histories, particularly Derby/Oaks races from everywhere whichaway. I've got ARMs from various years & just ordered 1955. So maybe some day there can be a 'American Racing Manual Research Conference' and stuff in the US can at least get filled in. There's Oaks and Derby races everywhere - Will Rogers Derby, Yellowstone Derby, New Mexico State Fair Thoroughbred Derby, all kinds of state-bred Derbies & Oaks in between. Most ARM's have a section showing winners of the previous years' stakes races, in addition to the section showing up-to-date lists of winners of more important events.
Which I'm sure most everybody already knows.

The Jockey Club should hire you, Miesque. Really....they need a dedicated/resourceful researcher like you.

It might be worth going to your local Half-Priced Books (or looking at their site if you don't have one in your area) to see if you can get an American Racing Manual. DRF puts it out every year and it has all the winners for a lot of stakes races (not sure if it's just graded stakes or all stakes). I live in Lexington so I realize we're kind of different but I've found the Manual at HPB for $10 before.

I've got a bunch of ARMs, actually. (American Racing Manuals. Not arms. Two are enough, though I guess I could use more)
Local HP Books are wonderful (there's probably 5 in my general area (north of Austin), but down here, horse racing isn't exactly a going concern. There's usually few 'Trendsetters' books about Quarter Horse stallions. About which I have very little interest, though I do have copies of 'Foundation Sires of the American Quarter Horse' and 'Foundation Mares of the American Quarter Horse', because everybody knows I need more books. I'll die under an biblovanche one day, I'm sure.
I buy my ARM's thru Abebooks, Half.com and Amazon. Sometimes they're cheap. Sometimes they edge right to the far end of my budget, and then I see some dude in Austria selling the whole kit & kaboodle of them ALL for beaucoup buques and I want to die.
I have:
1940
1943
1946
1947
1953
1961
1964
1966
1973
1974 (got it for about $15, which just blew me away, as it chronicled Secretariat's Triple Crown of '73)
1978
1980
1981
1988
1989
2003
2005
2006
and just purchased
1955 ("Your order has been shipped!", and I squealed with girlish glee)
If anybody has editions of the years I don't have... hey, maybe we could conspir... er, collaborate?
I need to go through all I have and see if I can find some winners of the Spokane and Yakima Downs (Meadows?) Derbys (Derbies? Derbii?).
I contacted the Jockey Club to see if they can provide anything. I suspect it will cost an arm and a leg for anything they might bring up. Those extra arms could help after all.

I'm not sure if it's open to the public but TJC does have a library in its Lexington office that is full of books with records for all sorts of things (I found books from the 1800s in there). You might want to inquire if is open to the public if you're ever interested in coming to Lexington for research. The Keeneland library can also help, they're great at finding stuff and helping people who are looking for info.

You should try Ebay and half.com. I just searched for them and they have a lot. I'm not sure of the prices but some seem fairly cheap.
