Oh, I didn't see that. But that's what you get for reading QC's posts in full! Shame on you! :D

You'd be sad living in a basement too.

I didn't have a problem with anyone else, it was just the all knowing QC who thinks everyone is out to get him while being stupider than him (debatable) that bugged me, ha.

Probably wanted a partner and wants the attention. It isn't a big deal either way but nobody believes they set the RNA at 1.9M but meant 1.19M. Who sets and RNA at a random 1.19M? Then she has someone at Timber Town lie for her about it, and then she says God wanted her to keep the horse. The whole thing is odd. She clearly never had any intention of selling him.
You realize that if the RNA is at $1.19 mil, it isn't actually that random, right? It means that the bid that buys the horse is $1.2 mil not $1.19 mil. I'm not getting into the actual Mandy Pope situation but you're really focused on the $1.19 number when it's actually not all that uncommon to have a "random" number like that as a reserve (be it $999,000 or what have you). Stephanie's Kitten's reserve was $2,999,000 because Ramsey wanted $3 million for her.
RNA stands for Reserve Not Attained, meaning any bid EQUAL or in excess gets the horse. If the RNA is 1.19M, then a 1.19M bid gets the horse. The reserve is attained means exactly what it says. If you were correct why did they set it at 1.9M instead of 1.89M? It is hard to believe they made a $700K mistake in setting the reserve on a War Front out of a HOY. It is very obvious she had no intention of selling all of him. I had no problem with it until Timber Town starting spinning how honest they are and then Pope later commented on how God wanted her to keep the horse. All they had to do was say they put him in the sale with a high reserve and it is their right to do so.

The problem I have with people doing this is supposed you passed on earlier horses in the sale with the intent of spending your money on this one. You basically were bidding on a horse someone had no intention of selling.
If it's a buy-back type bid, then the sales agents would bid up to the reserve, exactly. In this case 1.19, this way the live money would start at 1.20. Pretty sure it's a way of boosting the sales stats/numbers for sires isn't it? (Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that's what had happened with American Pharoah for instance). Whether the horse changes hands or not, the fact it hit the reserve modifies the stats and looks good on a resumé. Not so if it's just below the reserve.

Following up on my post about 533, the Stay Gold colt who hammered at $220,000...he was an RNA.
On the other hand, 563, the War Front/Praise colt who left the ring for just $100,000...he DID sell to Blandford Bloodstock. A head and four legs and all. :P

Hence my "making fun of" part of said comment.

She was called an idiot for her beliefs. That's crossing the line to me. (And, yes, I know someone is going to say "Well, look who said it" or some variation of that but I had to speak up because that line in his post rubbed me wrong.)
Those aren't her beliefs. She is doing what narcissistic people do. Make everything about them. Nobody believes God intervenes in order for them to keep a million dollar racehorse. You have to be insane to believe a God is intervening so you can keep a million dollar racehorse but that same God didn't intervene to save an 8 year old girl from being sold to ISIS as a sex slave.

I'm surprised the Praise colt sold. I figured he'd be an RNA at that price. If he can run a little, they might get a decent price off of him in a regional market as a stallion in a few years. But I'm guessing with that price, getting him to the track may be hard enough.

CC, the reserve is set to mean the next number HIGHER is a sale. Setting it at $1,190,000 simply means $2m is the price she wants and the price it sells at. It's not that odd of a number.

I believe their story, and don't think it really matters. Who did they harm? No one. I don't see why they should be criticized so harshly.

As for the God comment, I accept it as I do when someone says something was fate. It may be one or both or neither, but some have things happen sometimes that strike them this way. I believed it was "as it was meant to be" that Songbird missed the Oaks given she and Rick came down with a fever on the very same day after the SA Oaks and then Rick and all of us were far away in a hospital room when the Oaks ran. Some may think me silly, but that's ok, it's my belief. I've had one premonition in my life, to the point I was nauseus with worry over what I was sure was going to happen, and it happened. Sometimes weird things happen in life.

That's an odd way to do it, are all horse sales run the same?
I work for an auto dealer only auction house....the company is global, and I work on the block with the auctioneer during the sales. 90% of vehicles sold have a reserve in the system, and whether it's $7,499 or $90,000 the reserve figure buys the item, not the 'next higher bid' above that price (unless of course there's multiple bidders, then it's naturally highest bid above reserve).

Keeneland and Fasig work that way (Hence the $2.99 mil for Stephanie's reserve). I'd imagine OBS and the others in the U.S. do as well.

I think the same handler handled the Havre De Grace colt, gave him a quick kiss on the neck when he 'sold'.
That was Cordell Anderson, who's also Runhappy's caretaker. He is one of the best handlers I've ever seen, if not the best.[/quote]

Yes! Thanks for his name. I just love watching him with all the horses going through. And, sounds like I need to watch the HDG colt to see the kiss. :)

Out of curiosity I just checked, they bought 4 during the three sessions of book 1. And they paid less for the first two than what they are paying for the ones today.
