As long as his fertility rates stay steady, I do think he'll be bred until he literally can't anymore, whether or not it's infirmities of old age or fertility. IIRC, Storm Cat was pensioned because his fertility started to drop off. Mr. Prospector bred mares the year he passed away, fertile old fellow he was, LOL.

Who knows how long Mr. Prospector would have went on if he didn't colic.

So glad his babies are having success this year. Gio Ponti is one of my favorites, as gutsy and versatile as they come. He raced competitively in many Grade 1s though age 6, and likely would have won a couple of Breeders Cup races had it not been for the two powerhouse ladies he faced in 2009 and 2010

. He seems like such a bargain at $12,500 for the right mare. Hope this is just the beginning of his success as a sire! Thanks for posting the article, Starine.

Spendthrift has sold Dublin to Keane Stud, where he currently stands. Keane Stud has sold The Lumber Guy to Chile.

First Defence and United States sold to stand in Saudi Arabia

Grade 1 winner First Defence, sire of champion Close Hatches, has been sold to continue his stud career at Haif Stud in Saudi Arabia in a deal brokered by Chad Schumer of Schumer Bloodstock and Khalid Alsyari. The 12-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song previously stood at Juddmonte Farms in Kentucky.

Joining First Defence in Saudi Arabia is United States, who stood the 2016 season at Northwest Farm in Florida. The son of A P Indy is the sire of G3 winner and G1-placed La Irunesa from three small crops of racing age.

I have to think that First Defense hasn't been working out as a sire for Juddmonte, although siring a mare as good as Close Hatches looks pretty good on a stud resume. A homebred son of the Late Unbridled's Song and a grandson of their great matriarch, Toussaud, the stallion has an impeccable pedigree.

Maybe now that they seem to have another very good UBS son (Arrogate), parting with First Defense isn't difficult. Besides, Sheikh Abdullah could just feel like he's sending his horse home to Saudi Arabia.

I think he would have been sold regardless of if they had Arrogate or not. He just hasn't sired many stakes winners and he doesn't attract mares.

Darley has sold Desert Party to a partnership that includes the stallion's co-breeder, Stephen Sinatra. He will be relocated from Sequel Stallions to Irish Century Farm near Saratoga Springs.

Hoping to make a little daytrip to go see this animal in the flesh. Has anyone else been? I've not toured Coolmore before, but I know in the past they had a bit of a bad rap. Wondered if that changed. Also, who else do they tend to pull out? Along with Giants Causeway, I've been a Tale of the Cat fan for a long time and I'd love to see Uncle Mo again (saw him before his BD Juvie blowout).

I've been twice. They pull out Pharoah and Thunder Gulch but let you wander the front barns (supervised) to see the other stallions. Tale of the Cat is in the back barn so you don't see him but you see Giant's Causeway, Munnings, Declaration of War, Shanghai Bobby, Lookin at Lucky and Mo in addition to the two they pull out (as long as they haven't moved them). I never went on their old tour so I don't know how it compares but it's very well done. I've had two different guides and both were entertaining. It's worth however much it is ($20, I think) even if you just want to see Pharoah because they bring him out for quite a while.
