He sure made it look easy, promising he can go farther and in tougher company. :D

Recollection, f, 2, Distorted Humor–Daydreaming, by A.P. Indy
Projected Debut: Saratoga Early
Trainer: Shug McGaughey

After posting four breezes at Fair Hill, Phipps homebred Recollection covered three furlongs at Belmont Park in a smart :35.20 (3/8) June 28 much to the delight of conditioner Shug McGaughey. “She worked [Tuesday] morning and she’s doing really well,” McGaughey reported. “Should be ready to run by the first part of Saratoga.” The half-sister to GISW Imagining (Giant’s Causeway) and the 3-year-old stakes-placed ‘TDN Rising Star’ Browse (Medaglia d’Oro) is out of MGSW and MGISP Daydreaming, who aired at first asking as a juvenile at the Spa back in 2003. That 15-year-old daughter of Get Lucky (Mr. Prospector) is a full-sister to GISW Girolamo, as well as the dams of GISWs Super Saver (Maria’s Mon) and Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat).

Gloaming, f, 2, Malibu Moon–Vespers, by Known Fact
Projected Debut: Saratoga Early
Trainer: Shug McGaughey

Stuart S. Janney III homebred Gloaming, a Malibu Moon half-sister to 2012 GI Donn H. hero Hymn Book (Arch), is also nearing a debut. The chestnut has seven listed workouts dating back to early May and most recently worked three furlongs in :36.21 (5/8) at Belmont June 28. “I’ve got a filly called Gloaming, who is a half-sister to Hymn Book, that should also be ready to run the first part of Saratoga,” trainer Shug McGaughey said. Gloaming’s multiple stakes winning dam graduated at first asking as a 3-year-old going seven furlongs at Saratoga in 2001. This is also the family of GISW Data Link (War Front). McGaughey, of course, campaigned Malibu Moon’s leading earner, 2013 GI Kentucky Derby winner Orb.

Strident, c, 2, Street Cry (Ire)–Storm Flag Flying, by Storm Cat
Projected Debut: Saratoga Middle
Trainer: Shug McGaughey

Produced by champion Storm Flag Flying, Strident should be ready to launch his career by the middle portion of the Saratoga meeting, trainer Shug McGaughey reports. The blue-blooded Phipps homebred worked an easy four furlongs in :51.60 (18/19) at McGaughey’s Fair Hill base June 28. Following a debut win at Saratoga, Storm Flag Flying, a daughter of 1995 GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies heroine My Flag (Easy Goer), captured three straight Grade I events, headed by a tally in the 2002 GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Arlington Park. Strident’s third dam is the brilliant Hall of Famer Personal Ensign, who capped her 13-for-13 career for McGaughey with an unforgettable decision in the 1988 GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

It's nice that you have posted about Recollection. She appears to be another good one from her dam Daydreaming and is my favorite of the 2 year old fillies.

Looking forward to Blenheim Palace making her debut on Sunday and will hopefully add to the slowly developing 3yo depth we have been seeing on dirt. Play It Now is also close to making her debut.

Mr Janney has a nice 2yo Malibu Moon filly debuting later today. Another quality filly he bought through the sales ring.

I'd love to see Strident succeed...that is a stallion's pedigree if I've ever seen one.

Bombs Away looked good running second on Friday. Revved Up looked great on 7/9. Both look like they have a future. Browse deserves another chance after that crazy rainstorm and delay before the running of the stake at Delaware.

Three notes a little off topic:

1) I like the way Jose Ortiz rides the Shug horses. Gets the closers in it a little earlier and isn't afraid to be forwardly placed.
2) I liked that Shug had a 2 year old for Shortleaf. Back to his Loblolly roots.
3) On Leave, the half to Ironicus, was impressive yesterday and looks like she has a big future too.

On Leave will be considered for the Riskaverse at Saratoga on her next appearance.

Carrumba is being trained for the Shuvee and, if she runs well enough, will then run in the Personal Ensign.

Really pleased for Blenheim Palace on her debut. Should step significantly over longer, so fingers crossed.

I almost missed it but I saw the Sail Ahoy is finally back on the work tab. Hopefully he gets the chance to fulfill that promise he showed last fall.

Cladan, I remember an unraced 3 year old half sister to Carrumba. Is she still in training and can she be a late bloomer like her sister?

Blenheim Palace ran ok but there was no pace in the race. Looking forward to seeing Carrumba on Sunday.

Some disappointing results on the dirt. Browse and Carrumba didn't care for the slop, while Bombs Away and Recollection both struggled the heavier saratoga dirt. Recollection was ridden like a good filly but tired quickly.

Vagabond stepped up from her debut and won her maiden at Laurel Park this pm on the turf.

Hopefully Blenheim Palace can make amends later this week when she steps back in distance to get a better early pace.

I will post the Matings for this year if you wish.

Cladan I saw the Orb yearlings sold very well at the Saratoga sale, all going 6 figures or more. What are your thoughts on the young Orb offspring?

The Orb foals look good, nicely put together and athletic. Trophy Wife, Consequence and Satisfaction all won on the turf, so it will be interesting to see whether their progeny can run on the dirt. As you know, the Orb yearlings have been named.

A nice win for Security Risk at the Spa last weekend, with Strident and Revved Up running on Saturday.

Worth mentioning that On Leave made it 3 for 3 this year in the Riskaverse for Mr Janney and will run next in the Sands Point Stakes. In addition to Onus, My Impression, All In Fun, Fair Point and Orient Harbor, the Janney broodmare band looks to strengthen significantly in the coming years.

Nice win for On Leave in the Riskaverse. Strident should do better running longer and Revved Up showed guts and determination to get the win at Saratoga R5. Really good to see.

Thanks for the breeding info, Cladan!

Thanks for the breeding info Cladan.

Do you know what happened to RELOAD? He won a G3 earlier this year and I was hoping he'd win some more graded stakes races this year and then be a stallion. He stopped working and no more entries since spring. I hope he's ok.

Inspector Lynley Up In Time in Saranac
Winning trainer Shug McGaughey added, “I’m very pleased, this horse was coming into the race really well and trained really well. He had some excuses his last three starts. Last start, he was wide in the Kent and the horse who beat him came back and ran well in the [GI] Secretariat, so I thought that legitimized that race.”

Pedigree Notes:

Inspector Lynley is out of multiple graded stakes winner Criminologist, who is a half-sister to the dam of graded stakes winner Tammy the Torpedo (More Than Ready) and to multiple graded stakes placed Rescue Squad (Dynaformer). His third dam Deputation produced the dam of Grade I winner Carriage Trail (Giant’s Causeway). Criminologist produced a filly by Tiznow this year and was bred back to Lemon Drop Kid.
