Not very tucked up, is he? Maybe it was a very warm day and he was letting them down to cool off? ;)

Also posted in the In Memoriam thread: Seeking the Gold is gone. He was 31. Heck of a racehorse and his sire line's success seems assured by Dubawi and his sons.

When we see how good Dubawi has become as a stallion, it just brings home how tragic it was that we lost Dubai Millennium so soon. Only one crop, IIRC, yet he left such an amazing legacy. IMHO, DM was Seeking the Gold's greatest son.

I don't think any of that is even debatable. Dubai Millennium didn't even finish covering his first book of mares, he was put down in April of 2001, yet he still managed 9% stakes winners from foals. That he got such a great stallion, like Dubawi, from those 56 foals is remarkable.

I enjoyed following him throughout his stallion career. Fantastic horse. Condolences to his connections and his fans.

Seeking the Gold was a good racehorse and a tremendous sire. Top class offspring winning at the highest levels on both dirt and turf.

To be honest, I was under the impression he had been gone for a while. Glad to read that I was wrong and he lived to the very ripe age of 31.

Spendthrift sells Victor's Cry and Wilburn
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ ... ry-wilburn
Victor's Cry is heading to Indiana and I highly doubt he is standing for $10,000, probably an error on Bloodhorse's part.

Wilburn is heading to Oklahoma.

Wilburn is very handsome and IIRC, Victor's Cry is a nice-looking son of the late Street Cry. They must not have been getting many mares for Spendthrift to part with them, but that means Oklahoma and Indiana are getting a couple of nice stallions.
They may flourish as regional studs....and I'm glad they weren't sold overseas.

They aren't producing is the problem and I'm sure their number of mares covered dropped a lot this year. In 2015, Wilburn covered 76 mares and Victor's Cry covered 51. However, Victor's Cry did start out in Canada, 2016 was his first year in Kentucky, and doesn't have near the numbers of Wilburn. Between the 2 of them they have 1 Stakes Winner(and the SW was in Panama).

SIRE of Tooth: Wilburn
TOTALS FOR foals* starters (%) winners (%) BW (%) earnings (%) ael
Wilburn 216 95 ( 44) 50 ( 23) 1 ( 0) $1,426,925 0.58

SIRE of Coconut Roll: Victor's Cry
TOTALS FOR foals* starters (%) winners (%) BW (%) earnings (%) ael
Victor's Cry 62 29 ( 47) 15 ( 24) 0 ( 0) $557,346 1.13

I feel for the people in the Share the Upside program. Are they really going to ship their mare to Oklahoma or Indiana to be covered? Do they just hope the new owner gets their season sold?

Wilburn was the first Bernardini son to go to stud and has been a bust, but fortunately (at least for me, lol, since I love him - probably one of the few who do) Stay Thirsty, Algorithms and To Honor and Serve have all shown promise this season.

Acclamation had his first winner:

I'm chuffed as I do like his sire Unusual Heat.

I really hope Acclamation excels as a sire. He ran well on every kind of surface and got the 2011 Eclipse for Older Horse.
I love Unusual Heat, who has been top California sire more years than I can count. Can you imagine how he would have done if he'd been in Kentucky, with the support of a major breeding farm (no disrespect meant for Harris Farms)?
But UH is 26 now and, while big props to a senior stallion who is apparently still up for his job, I suspect that retirement can't be too far away for the venerable son of Nureyev. We need Acclamation to step up to the plate.

Also, I'm a big fan of Lemon Drop Kid and today he had a big day at Arlington with his sons taking both the Secretariat (Beach Patrol) and the American St. Leger (Da Big Hoss).

Not really stallion news but Gainesway posted the video of Tapit selling at the 2002 Keeneland September sale.

Coolmore America ‏@coolmoreamerica
Three-time champion sire Giant's Causeway still looks magnificent at age 19. He sired his 82nd GSW last weekend.

Coolmore America ‏@coolmoreamerica
@coolmoreamerica that's 82 graded stakes winners in the Northern Hemisphere. He has 97 overall. Thanks @francesjkaron

Can't believe he is 19. I remember when he was advertised as 'the best young stallion in the world"

His sire, the great Storm Cat, lived to be 30, and I think he was pensioned at 25. If GC takes after Dad, he has many more years ahead of him.
