Today at Leopardstown, a pair of 2YO War Front colts finished 1-2 in a maiden. Both are owned by Coolmore.
Sportsmanship won. He is a son of Wild Poppy (El Prado x Flanders). Second, and flying late, was Courage Under Fire (half to Take Charge Brandi).

Long Island Sound has done decently. Ran third at Royal Ascot to Hawkbill and was just 2 1/4L behind Deauville last weekend, he's out of De Coronado's half-sister Treasure Trail. The family also has She's Not Here at the stakes level (running in the Yellow Ribbon this weekend) but she's kind of tailed off this year.Diver52 wrote:M/L suggests he's well meant, but the family hasn't done much lately, alas.

The challenge of getting some of the Vertigineux's to the track is that it requires some serious patience; Zen, Ebby and, now, De Coronado, have all been really tall, late-maturing horses. IIRC, O'Brien said DC is the largest horse he's ever trained.
I hope his patience pays off tomorrow...and I also hope that TVG will show the races from the Curragh.

A promising run, and not necessarily a win, is what is expected of De Coronado today. Aidan likes to bring them along gently and he doesn't mind his horses being beaten first time out, he has already said that 'he will come on a ton' for his first run.

He was never put in the race, carrying a lot of condition. He was just out for a canter today, Aidan said as much just before the race.

I'm not sure I would describe De Coronado's run as 'promising.' He ran evenly at the back of the field and never showed any acceleration in the stretch.
I sure hope he improves off this race, or Coolmore may find themselves in possession of the best-bred hunter/jumper prospect on the planet.
