WHOA and a bay Orfevre colt (hip 55) came in dragging TWO handlers & almost went straight through the out gate! :o

ETA: so much rearing & dragging them around - if he's this strong as a yearling look out - still brought $400k and then tried to bite his handlers on the hand-off afterward

What the heck, and the very next hip - a Heart's Cry colt - rears up & catches the handler with a front hoof, and then when he comes down and stands, strikes the handler again with a front hoof. Sheesh. :?

WOW the Awesome Feather colt by Deep Impact - $2.58million (or $2.7million, there was some discrepancy all night between the graphic in the YouTube live stream & what the screen showed behind the auctioneers...???), and now that I've seen that it's time for bed. : ))))

Is this Just a Way's first crop of foals? Hip 305 was a little cutie, very nicely put together. <3

Hip 312 must have a nurse mare? Because unless I'm going blind(er), that is a Halflinger pony they led in with him. :?

ETA: And now 313 is all by herself...

Hip 328 colt by Deep Impact x Elusive Wave brings $2.7million (just a bit more than the sales topper yearling colt yesterday). He was very nice looking but whoa!

The Payton d'Oro & Ultra Blend colts aren't until way later, and I"m not really familiar with the rest of the mares, so I think I'm done for now... can't fathom paying two and a half million dollars for a *weanling*. Wow.

In case anyone was wondering how the Yoshida's can continue to afford to buy the best mares in the world, with it being estimated that they have spent over $100,000,000 in the last several years... it's because they made over 50% of the $79,000,000 USD in sales over two days in the yearling session alone at this year's Select Sale  I mean, the average price of sale with 247 yearlings is $368,348 USD! The amount of money spent on bloodstock and purses in Japan never ceases to amaze me.

They may spend a ton of money, but I am willing to bet that the Yoshidas finish each year in the black

This story from last year says while they have spent a ton of money, the mares pay for themselves with one or two foals sold.

Coolmore got outbid on the 2016 c. Deep Impact X Elusive Wave, by Elusive City, that sure doesn't happen often... though foals selling for $2,718,650 USD isn't a common occurrence either.

I was wondering if any of the big name (non-Japan) stables were there, I looked through the yearling buyers but only recognized Charles Fipke. Haven't looked through the foal results yet.

The funny thing is, Coolmore actually sold the dam to Japan, in foal to Frankel
