It's official.

War Emblem didn't cover any mare this year.

He had covered two mares last year, none of whom were in foal.

So he well have no sons or daughters born two years in a row.

Sorry to hear that, do we know if it's some type of physical issue? He's still fairly young for a stallion- at 14. I know that he had issues in the past, but I thought he was past that.

Let's hope that Michele McDonald (or ABR) will report extensively on War Emblem.
It looks like that Yoshida, who has been taking good care of him, doesn't decline her request to be interviewed.
Michele-san, please!

Maybe he's trying to tell them he wants to be pensioned. If this happens again next year, I can't see why they'd keep trying with him.

Disappointing. Maybe he can be pensioned and moved to Northern Horse Park so fans can see him? I can't really blame them for continuing to try, Mr. Yoshida has funds to spare when it comes to finding out if there is anything wrong with the horse... and when it comes to attempting to have him cover mares, letting him pick from an assortment of mares that Yoshida probably owns wouldn't cost anything.

This is a major bummer. His favorite mare was Click Here - did they try breeding him to her this year? I know the past few years she has been bred to other stallions. Perhaps that is why he doesn't want to breed to any others. If they ever give up on him I wish he could come back to the USA so I could go see him!

Would they consider bringing out a specialist? They had Sue (can't remember last name) from Penn Vet go help and that is when he had his largest crop I believe.

I think they have had multiple specialists come over the years from all over the place.

Maybe the old jokes about him being gay are true.

I found this pointed out in the comments of the article posted and went to the forum. Someone who worked on a TB farm in Illinois stated:

"Another witchy mare double barreled a vet tech out her stall door. Thankfully THAT mare aborted the following year and the owner sold her (yes, the new owner was warned of her evil nature). When she loaded on the van to go to KY WAR EMBLEM was on there, headed to the KY Derby after his win (and subsequent sale) in the IL Derby. She jerked the lead from the handler and tried to attack War Emblem!"

I have no idea if this is true but have no idea why this would be made up in a general forum about mean mares but it's possible it was made up who knows. If it's true I am sure it could have affected him in some way. Why would a mare be loaded on to a truck near a stallion?

Anyway, like I said, Tachyon said it was well known that Click Here was his favorite mare. He bred to her every time.

I find it very hard to believe that they would load a racing colt going to the KY Derby, that was just bought for a bunch of money, onto a van with some devil broodmare from IL. I would think they wouldn't want any racing horses in contact with breeding stock.
