Thanks, Treve. That's simple enough. I think it's still a little confusing when it comes to the types of things subject to these various taxes. But that can be confusing in the U.S. too, and vary from state to state.

Northport, Coolmore bought a controlling Vancouver announced back in April 2015. Sounds like there could have been a bit of a bidding war for him.
UNBEATEN Golden Slipper winner Vancouver has become the latest high-profile acquisition by breeding giants Coolmore in a deal reported to value the Gai Waterhourse-trained two-year-old at more than A$40 million (£20.4 million).

The valuation, reported by Australia's Daily Telegraph newspaper, makes Vancouver the most expensive Golden Sipper winner ever sold for stud duties and comes just weeks after Coolmore and the China Horse Club bought into Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum's Australian Group 1-winning juvenile Pride Of Dubai.

I already knew that Coolmore owned the horse and that he has been transferred from Gai Waterhouse to Aidan O'Brien. I am just surprised that after the announcement that the horse would race in Europe in 2016 that he will also beginning his breeding career on SH time in Australia when some of the biggest mile races in Europe and beyond are yet to be run.

Long story short I expected him to begin his stud career on NH time at Coolmore Ireland in 2017, thus giving him an entire season of racing in Europe in 2016

Ah, yes, I see what you mean. I've been thinking Royal Ascot was the goal this year to increase his value internationally as a possible shuttle horse. I've gotten used to that kind of thing from Coolmore, so it didn't seem odd to me he'd stand in Australia this year. Do you know if they are pointing to the Queen Anne?

Sounds like they haven't decided yet.
VANCOUVER
"A champion two-year-old in Australia, where he won the Golden Slipper for Gai Waterhouse, he joined us over the winter and is an exciting horse. He's been cantering away but hasn't done any serious work yet. He's got big and powerful since he got here and is a very good mover. We're not sure yet whether we'll go sprinting with him or try him over a mile. We'll make that decision and hopefully get a run into him before Royal Ascot."

I was following this one for a while, anybody have any updates, etc. ?

Can't wait to see some nice stamina-infused progeny out on the tracks here.

So as much as some of us are annoyed with the fertility updates, seems like he has over 70 mares confirmed in foal to date and in spite of the discount and deals he's making bank for Coolmore, breeding anywhere from once to three times a day. Of these 9 are Zayat mares already.

In a semi-related note, Littleprincessemma is the 11th KY-bred Broodmare of the year in Pharoah's pedigree.

What I am really looking forward to, babies aside, is seeing his full book of mares.

Big Bad Bob (IRE) died today (23 April) in a paddock accident at the Irish National Stud. He was taking a lap of his paddock when he collided with a fence post and broke his neck.

R.I.P :(

What a handsome horse....it's so tragic when horses die from something as simple and normal as a gallop around their own paddock. :(

I would have been more surprised if they were going to ship him there.

No kidding. Why would any breeder risk shuttling the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years?
Juddmonte doesn't shuttle Frankel, so many top mares have made the trip to England in order to breed to him. I suspect that the same will be true for the international owners who want to pair their mares with AP.

Still a bit surprised Coolmore is leaving what, a billion dollars on the table.

But on the other hand, Frankel has a very attractive pedigree whereas AP doesn't as much so breeders would be more willing to take the trip to England with their prized mares? But of course I agree that he shouldn't have to shuttle, him being a Triple Crown winner is super special.

Maybe the insurance premiums were astronomical? Have to think they still would have made a profit, though.

Risk v. reward....maybe Coolmore would prefer to get a few crops on the ground before they try shuttling him.

That's my thought as well, plus they may no problem having filling his book here, even after the initial years.

I would still guess that he is going to cover more than enough mares on SH time while in Kentucky. I doubt any Aussies will make the trip, but a couple South American outfits ship broodmares North or have a handful of broodmares who live/foal in Kentucky but operate on SH time.
