Lol on Ann being a fruit loop, which is definitely true. I agree with mons, they probably don't want a January or February foal due to the weather. At the farm I work at, they don't like to breed for January foals, but late February is ok. They worry about mares colicking, since winter increases the chance of colic since horse's don't drink as much.mariasmon wrote:I have no idea. Maybe it's the weather? Ann Moss is a Froot Loop, so who knows what she's thinking. I don't believe it matters when she foals. If the offspring were going to a sale, it might be different. All this business about not wanting to have a late foal is way overblown (IMHO).carole wrote:Why would they not want her to foal then? Seems strange to me considering Zen herself was already a late developer.mariasmon wrote:

Bad luck. Condolences to all concerned. Hopefully Zenyatta will be bred back to War Front this year...I was very keen on Z's War Front filly that died in that paddock accident. Breeding is a tough business.

Wonder if there was a "stands and nurses" guarantee with the foal contract. If he wasn't able to nurse then the Mosses would be owed a free breeding. That could enter into their decision to send Z back to War Front.

She looks fine at this point. Glad she has a proper paddock mate, warm sun on her back and grass to eat.

Contracts vary but it could be a consideration.

Vixana is the dam of Mentor Cane, who tragically broke down in a workout in 2013. Looks like she's had her own breeding/foaling difficulties since his birth in 2010. Checking the BC site, she's been bred every year since but hasn't produced a live foal.

Oh no, I saw the news on Twitter and my stomach just plummeted. So very sad. All that waiting, just for the hope and then the heartbreak that followed.

Was worrying when there were no pictures today This is sadder than the filly dying for me, don't know why, I think he had her eyes. I wonder who they'll go to next if they don't go back to War Front. Not sure why anyone would call Ann Moss a 'fruit loop', she's an artist and maybe a bit eccentric but certainly no dummy and she surely loves her horse.

The wikipedia version of a Live Foal contract is not the one used in the Thoroughbred industry.oldgraymare wrote:Explanation of Live Foal Guarantee: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_foal_guarantee

No one called her a dummy. No one even insinuated that.firehorse wrote:Not sure why anyone would call Ann Moss a 'fruit loop', she's an artist and maybe a bit eccentric but certainly no dummy and she surely loves her horse.

Calling her a fruit loop doesn't mean she's dumb. What we're meaning is she's a little on the weird side. I've heard stories about what she's like when she visits Lane's End, and it sounds like she's loopy.

I wish now I hadn't seen the photos--that curious, trusting little face, we know what he doesn't--how soon his brave new world is going to turn ugly. It's like watching Romeo come whistling down the street in Act One, Scene One. . .
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

I didn't say anyone called her dumb, I said she's no dummy.

She is herself - she is a very kind person = she is intelligent and is absolutely a remarkable woman - I admire her - and respect her devotion to caring for their horses - I offer her my sincere condolences Jerry too = we should respect what they have done for their horses - to say these things is disrespectful - especially at this time -Summer Bird wrote:Calling her a fruit loop doesn't mean she's dumb.
