We have an exceptional field of 13 running today
with only two scratches

JOHN HENRY is still not feeling well

POST TIME MIKE is spending some time
At the equine hospital

Excitement is in the Air because CIGARSHOP
will be running for that elusive 3-Peat today


The horses are loading into the starting gate without incident
except for PEEPTOAD who is acting very Unruly And
is going to need some encouragement to enter the gate

Peppermints & some patting on her neck
Have done the trick and she is In

AND AWAAAAAAY THEY GO

Everyone has come away nicely but
nobody appears to want the early lead

Heading into the turn Criminal Type suddenly
fired like a rocket leaving the field playing catch up

But coming out of the turn Ruffian & Stark
Flew by Criminal Type as if he were standing still!


It is now these two who have taken command of the race

Criminal type is right there behind the Dynamic Duo

It's about six lengths back to EL-PRADO and BLUNNY
Who are both running strongly

Behind that Duo is defending champion CIGARSHOP
and then Dusty who Are trying their best to catch up

Raven and Catalina are next

And bringing up the rear in the first half of the race...

Tiger Dancer & Peeptoad

They're at the TOP of the STRETCH ---
As a 3-way match race is causing the crowd to be
up on their feet screaming Like a pack of banshees

STARK & RUFFIAN ----- Neck and neck

CRIMINAL TYPE JUST A LITTLE BEHIND THOSE TWO FRONT RUNNING SUPERSONIC SPEEDSTERS

BLUNNY Is another length back

And then comes a trio of
RAVEN, EL-PRADO and REAL QUIET

There is another big gap back to Dusty

She is followed by CIGARSHOP ~
Who unfortunately will not win the coveted 3--Peat today..


That Duo is Followed by CATALINA & OAKLAWN CAPPER

And running in another time zone are
Tiger Dancer and PEEPTOAD

AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME

STARK & RUFFIAN
Neither one is giving in or giving up

CRIMINAL TYPE
Is right there nipping at their heels

BLUNNY
Is still in it for a piece of the purse

The wire looms just ahead

Suddenly Stark decided he has had enough of that Pesky Filly, Ruffian...
Picking up his speed and separating himself from the Match Race taking Command

Another Roar has exploded from the crowd as Criminal Type
also decided that he too has Had enough of that Filly....

And with a move of his own flew right on by
leaving her Stunned - Shocked & Stupefied!


There was no doubt about two things today

STARK is clearly the Winner ...

CIGARSHOP would not accomplish the goal of the 3-Peat Victory

It is a very tight photo finish for 2nd place
A Skinny Kitty Whisker separates
Criminal Type & Ruffian

Objection lights are flashing
Trainers have run out onto the field
Jockeys are on the telephone

The high pitched voices of the ladies
are screaming Ruffan's name

The deeper toned male voices
Screaming for Criminal Type

The lights finally stopped flashing

Criminal Type eeeks out the Photo

Ruffian with a set of Very Frosted Whiskers Of her own... Settles for the Show Spot
In spite of the show she put on & the race that she ran...
she could do no better than third


Blunny rounds out the superfecta

Although Cigarshop failed to win The Elusive 3-Peat ~
He does win a Frosted Whisker Trophy
