Team Valor buys Songbird's half-sister in Thailand http://live.drf.com/nuggets/25619
Songbird’s 11-year-old half-sister Wide Range has been purchased in Thailand by Team Valor International, which has arranged to have the Mineshaft mare flown to Chicago on Saturday.
Team Valor, which has a history of prospecting bloodstock in the far reaches of racing and breeding, plans to foal the mare at Denali Stud and will breed her back this spring either to its Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom or Songbird’s sire Medaglia d’Oro. A decision will be made after the mare drops a foal she is carrying to the cover of Belmont turf stakes winner English Colony.

Flashy American and Funfair go for over 300k each at F-T.

Maggie d'Oro (by Medaglia d'Oro) in foal to the late Scat Daddy also sold at F-T for 210 000$.
I'm surprised, given she's an MDO and that she's in foal to Scat Daddy, and she's quite young, you'd think she'd go for higher.

So lovely to see all these mares. Black Caviar and her colt look great. In my opinion, mares are the heart and soul of breeding. Here's a nice photo of Love The Chase at Taylor Made.

Love the Chase has one of the loveliest heads I've seen. It's not like 'Chrome is homely, but I don't think he inherited his mom's looks. :P ;)

DRF News Article 2/17/2016

http://www.drf.com/news/hovdey-rachel-c ... ing-wheels

...the birth of Rachel’s Valentina was fraught with complications, and Rachel Alexandra required surgery to removed a piece of colon damaged in the foaling. Banke has not bred her since then.

“We check her all the time,” Banke said. “There’s always a chance she could be bred again – you can never say never – but I don’t think my nerves could take it. That was a very tough thing to go through with her. I’m happy to see her happy and healthy just the way she is.”...

The race fan in me wants to see the mare bred again... but the motherly instinct in me agrees with Barbara. We have 2 lovely foals from Rachel and the odds are she won't produce anything as good as she was (or even as good as her first two). What a difficult position it puts her in as a horse owner who loves her animals.

She has repeatedly said that for 2 years, I really doubt they'll ever breed her again.

Tomorrow (or today in Japan, Feb 20th) is Wind in Her Hair's 25th birthday! A G1 winner in her racing days when owned by Coolmore, she is most well known as the dam of super-sire Deep Impact and successful sire Black Tide. Now pensioned, she lives at Northern Horse Park, who posted some very cute celebratory birthday photos on their Facebook

In case anyone is wondering, Michelle Kinane said on twitter about an hour ago that as far as she knows, Royal Delta was bred to Galileo in 2014 but slipped that foal and was bred back again last year and is presumably in foal.

Ah the mystery continues. I really hope she and her foal are ok, she was one of my favourite all time mares.

Happy Birthday to Wind in her Hair <3

Also hope we hear about Royal Delta soon. I wish there was an easier way to keep track of mares.

Checking in with Z
Zenyatta is expecting her fourth foal at the end of March, her second by War Front. We’re excited about the new arrival, and it won’t be long until we head to Kentucky for foal watch.

In the meantime we receive frequent updates from Lane’s End. Zenyatta is in perfect health and great spirits. Alys Emson caught her resting in her paddock last week–she didn’t feel like getting up but she wanted treats anyway!

She looks so content and rolly-polly

Per this article Littleprincessemma's 2015 yearling Irish Pharoah was sold privately for an undisclosed sum.

She is being bred back to PotN which I found surprising after she gave birth to a Tapit which Summer Wind intends to keep.
