How bizarre is this? I've Struck a Nerve (Yankee Gentleman x Ranaway, by Cryptoclearance) stood for $1500 in 2015, bred 5 mares, was gelded, and was sent back to Desormeaux last August--they're vague about why, maybe to be a pony? He was retired due to injury and doesn't seem to be working or anything.

Curious indeed. I wonder who's idea it was? I'm guessing he's probably a pony yes, maybe Keith wanted him for sentimental reasons since he gave him his first graded stakes win?

- He wasn't popular, why bother? Didn't Claiborne pension someone because he was unpopular with breeders?
- He had a medical issue and was uncomfortable with breeding - spine, neck, testicles???
- Wouldn't settle down and "retire", and needs a job - ie. track pony!

I would hope he is not going back to race. I remember an injury was why he retired. Might be a nice horse to be around who needs a job.

Parading.

Live Oak Plantation pensioned and gelded a stallion that wasn't popular or producing. I feel bad because I can never remember his name. I always get him confused with High Cotton.

Edit: It was High Fly. I had to look at Live Oak's graded stakes winners to figure it out. I never remember his name.

Parading isn't gelded- pensioned for now unless he sudden has great runners. He is currently keeping Lure company per Claiborne pensioning article via bloodhorse

Shakespeare was pensioned due to low interest, and it looks like Nobiz Like Shobiz is likely headed that way too. I don't mean it's unheard of, I just thought the article made it sound a little unusual with I've Struck a Nerve--stud (obviously low numbers), gelded, returned to former trainer (they didn't clarify why). Probably just as a pony or retiree, but the horse had a weird career all the way around

Umm...what are the chances a horse comes back from an ankle injury, breeding mares, and being gelded late - to actually race at a higher level? I think pretty slim to none. I really hope he's a pony horse.

I like that pic of AP more than most of the "beauty" shots I've seen of him. Just covered in mud, looking like a horse that had one heck of a fun roll around the pasture instead of slicked up and shiny and wearing an almost petulant "why did I have to come in??" look... too cute
