War Bond, a War Front colt out of Meridiana RNAed for $1,950,000 at the September 2014 Keeneland sale.
I was and am still stunned the owners didn't let him go for that much money. I've been wondering whether they regret their decision by now, since he hasn't done much so far. I know he has only turned 3, but he hasn't raced yet and his workout times don't set the track on fire either.

That's kinda what I thought about Stephanie's Kitten, until he sold her privately (for a lot less than $3.95 mil).Union Rags wrote:I get it with a broodmare, although maybe no $3.95 million. Wondering if these people just put them through the ring for the attention.Izvestia wrote:Stephanie's Kitten RNA'd for $3.95 million in the '14 FT Breeding Sale. First to come to mind.

Well, he raced her another year and got another Breeders Cup and Flower Bowl win with her, so I guess he did ok!mariasmon wrote: That's kinda what I thought about Stephanie's Kitten, until he sold her privately (for a lot less than $3.95 mil).
Having seen pictures of her, she never seemed the most correct looking horse out there.

Azeri's first foal, the ill-fated Take Control (then named Vallenzeri) was a $7.7M RNA at Kee Sept in 2008. He sold for $1.9M at Kee Apr the next year.

I think she had a War Front colt last year. Bred to Tapit for 2016.Somnambulist wrote:Who did Wine Princess procreate with?ThreeMustangs wrote:Azeri's first foal, the ill-fated Take Control (then named Vallenzeri) was a $7.7M RNA at Kee Sept in 2008. He sold for $1.9M at Kee Apr the next year.
Oh, so she is stateside. That's cool.Sparrow Castle wrote:I think she had a War Front colt last year. DATTT Farm bought her for $3m in foal to War Front at the November 2014 fasig tipton sale. Last I heard, she was at Denali. Being a daughter of Azeri and in my Virtual Stable her whole career, I tried to keep track of her. Hard sometimes with broodmares, so I'm not sure if she's still there.

Pretty sure she is. I read something about Hard Not To Like, who he also bought, and it stated that he boarded his mares at Denali--and that can't have been more than 2 or 3 months agoSparrow Castle wrote: DATTT Farm bought her for $3m in foal to War Front at the November 2014 fasig tipton sale. Thanks, BlindLucky and mariasmon. I'd love to visit her some day. I wonder if they'll sell her War Front colt to recoup some of that money. He sure looked like a little cracker when he was born.mariasmon wrote:Yeah, Wine Princess is at Denali. Saw her there last year. She likes visitors. Bring mints.

He's full of himself. I liked Keertana's Tapit filly, though. She had an attitude like, "Look at me. I'm special." It always amuses me when the foals think you're really there for them and not their famous mothers. Wine Princess is the next best thing to being able to see Azeri. She looks a lot like her.Sparrow Castle wrote:Thanks, BlindLucky and mariasmon. I'd love to visit her some day. I wonder if they'll sell her War Front colt to recoup some of that money. Haha, it's so fun to see the different personalities in the foals with their moms. I'll watch for the Keertana-Tapit filly too. Hopefully, they'll both be special!mariasmon wrote:He's full of himself. I liked Keertana's Tapit filly, though. She had an attitude like, "Look at me. I'm special." Ajdal (Northern Dancer - Native Partner, by Raise A Native) was a $7.5 million RNA at the 1985 Keeneland July Sale. He went on to win 3 G1s and was Champion Sprinter in England and France in 1987. He stood one season at Dalham Hall before being euthanized due to a fractured leg in August 1988. While only getting 35 foals, his top racer was Cezanne who won the 1994 Irish Champion Stakes(G1) and I think ran in the 94 Breeders Cup and his daughter Homage, produced Mark of Esteem.

Azeri herself was a $4.4 million RNA. Sold later that year for $2,250,000.ThreeMustangs wrote:Azeri's first foal, the ill-fated Take Control (then named Vallenzeri) was a $7.7M RNA at Kee Sept in 2008. He sold for $1.9M at Kee Apr the next year.
I believe her and Take Control's RNAs were because Michael Paulsen was trying to negotiate to keep them? Thought I remember him attempting to keep ownership but the trust required that they be sold so they had no reserve the 2nd time through the ring?

But when you instruct the consignor to run up the bid to the reserve, you're usually not really getting any market intelligence at all, so that's not typically the motivation.Kurenai wrote:I'd guess that some put a really high RNA on the horse just to see what possible buyers would pay for it. Only explanation I can come up with.
