LOL. Fair. I get it, but I've also had this conversation many times....

"Hey, horse. Look at all this hay you have left to eat!"
"Ugh. I'm not gonna eat that."
"Why not?"
"It has pee all over it!"
"How'd that happen?"
"....I peed on it."
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

The 3 coming 4 year old we have peed in his feed through today. I have little sympathy for him

He bears the terribly bland name of "Patch" (not just his barn name... it is on his nameplate, his halter etc.)... in spite of the fact I was the first to find him/see him/welcome him into the world and suggested Songbird at the time. He's out of a TB dam and by a Selle Français sire and even back then I was in love with the song, I thought it was a sufficiently dignified name for a colt with showing aspirations. But apparently the barn manager cannot accept any name ideas but her own.

I'll submit Raise the P for his registered name if he hasn't been inspected yet by whatever warmblood registry they want him in

He should have been out looooong ago.

Assuming it's got to have something to do with that pesky cover a few mares for his disease free status requirement. Anyone heard for sure? I posted the question a while back on their FB page....and it was coyly ignored...

If he'd been willing to cover even 'a few mares,' I suspect he'd still be standing at stud in Japan. :P

Huh?

Maybe he's just an asshole and wants to bite people?

Any stallion brought into the United States has to cover two mares before being able to leave quarantine.

Let's be honest here. The horse is MEAN and doesn't like people. I would be really surprised if they include him on any tours ever so they will keep saying he is in semi-quarantine.

I could easily permanent semi-quarantine being because of one or both of these situations:
1)people(fans) are assholes and don't listen to rules, obviously I don't mean all fans but there are alot that don't listen. Old Friends doesn't want to get sued because the horse bites the crap out of someone.
2)the horse HATES people and gets super worked up and stressed out when around a group of people. This is supposed to be a good retirement for him too, if not being on the tour is in the best interest of the horse, then he wont be on the tour.

Pardon my ignorance, I know the JC requires live cover for registration but does the US agency in charge of live animal quarantine have the same requirement? It seems illogical to require that a stallion who might be a disease carrier cover mares - in effect, potentially infecting them as well...

So, to put it indelicately - they just test the semen, right? And if so, why can't they procure that sample the same way they would for AI? Film it, follow chain of possession like they do for forensic evidence, why wouldn't that be enough of a guarantee for carrier-free status?

And since I'm asking anyway, what would happen to a stallion & the mares he covered if they were found to be infected? Treatment or euthanasia or...?

That is so much more readable than slogging through the "animal and plant health and inspection service" part of the USDA website, which is written in government-ese...

I was also confused because apparently for EVA, you can just lab-test: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/nahss/equ ... e_2001.pdf

But the live cover is required for CEM.

Ok, I did not realize they do that.
I don't remember Silver Charm being in such a lengthy quarantine.

I seriously think this horse is an asshole and probably shouldn't be accessible to tour participants. He's never been known to be a friendly, gentle horse. It sounds like he likes to just do his thing.

double fence where they can't get close to him seems reasonable. they can't reach him, he can't reach them, his fans here that never got to see him in person finally can.

Crazy people can climb fences.
If the horse gets stressed from people, I can see them saying to bad to the fans. Its about the horse and keeping him happy.

There is no way he didn't pass quarantine yet. They wouldn't have released him to Old Friends.
Old Friends does their own quarantine when a horse arrives, just in case. But he has been there long enough to be out of that quarantine too.
I truly think they don't know what to do with him and are just trying to get to know War Emblem and figure out how to keep him happy. I'm sure they would like to make him available to fans but if he hates it then there is a real chance that he wont be available to fans.

so you're saying a fan would climb a fence mid tour with everyone watching? :?: i'm a little confused. i don't see an issue with a tour group making a sweep past his paddock. people want to see him, and with enough distance kept between him and people it shouldn't be a big deal.

Tbh he probably should have just stayed in Japan.

Yes, it's nice in theory for fans to get to see their favourite horses, but is it really going to be that warm and fuzzy seeing War Emblem if the horse is nasty and is stuck in 'quarantine' (or whatever conspiracy theories we have).
