The resulting foal would be a full sibling in blood to Valentina--I think. (Same sire, dams full sisters, all the same grandparents.) Is that correct term?

Wishing her luck in her new career. It looks like she simply wasn't competitive at stakes level for whatever reason, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have the potential to be a good broodmare. Between Rachel's foals and Dolphus, that family looks very good right now.

Nope. You could say they were 3/4 siblings. Not full.

A full sibling would be out of the same dam, by the same sire. I believe in this case it would be more like a 3/4 sibling? Though I am not sure if that works if it isn't the same dam either...

ETA: Ok I see someone confirmed.
ETA2: I just realised you used the term "sibling in blood" I haven't seen that in ages and didn't register it. Did you really mean "sibling in blood" (which I thought was archaic and out of use by now, but if I'm not mistaken was once used to describe get from the same stallion) or did you mean "sibling" "in blood" as in to describe the genetic relationship?

I'm well aware they wouldn't be full siblings. But 3/4 siblings isn't an accurate term in this case, either, since both would come from the same gene pool, without 1/4 different blood there. I'd heard the "sibling in blood" term before, when it came to horses that were incredibly closely related without actually being siblings, and wondered if this was the correct usage. If it's a really archaic term, though, that'd explain why I'm not terribly familiar with its usage.

Ok, so is 3/4 sibling when it is same dam and the sires are father and son (ie. AP Indy and Bernardini)?

Found this: http://www.pedigree-dynamics.com.au/pdf ... 0Terms.pdf
FULL SISTER / BROTHER IN-BLOOD A horse whose four grandparents are exactly
the same as another horse – even though one or both of the actual parents are not the
same, but are full sister or brother to the parent/s of the other horse.

I mean I don't think the term is obsolete I just haven't heard it being used at all in a modern context for a very long time.

This is something I've wondered, too. I've heard it used this way, but I think the technical defintion of 3/4 sibling is when three of the four grandparents are the same?

I didn't know there was a name for this. Neat!

Also, I guess I just sort of...forgot that Samantha Nicole would one day be a broodmare. It's delightful to know the genes have a chance to press on. Here's hoping she can stand in for her big sister and be a good producer as well.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

I had the opposite problem, I kept forgetting that Samantha Nicole was a racehorse and was expecting to see her bred. She has more value as a broodmare.

I get why they're sending her to Bernardini, with RV and all, but I can think of other stallions I'd like to see her go to first.

I think it is a perfect match for her first foal. Bernardini is proven with that family...and she can't go to MDO since he's her sire!
