They are all very sad, but Turallure is especially so for me. He was so gorgeous and such a hard trying horse. RIP, beautiful grey.

This one is especially devastating for me. His name always reminded me of that Irish lullaby, my Dad used to sing it to me as a child. RIP handsome boy and deepest condolensces to the connections.TapitsGal wrote:Turallure is gone after breaking down during a work at Keeneland

I didn't see it mentioned . During the Melbourne Cup , the 4 yo filly Verema suffered a serious injury .
The filly owned by the Aga Khan had to be Euthanized .
She was a beautiful girl , RIP!
The MB was so close to the Breeders Cup , just a few days later and on a weekday . Kind of came and went fast
this year , just thought she deserved mention for her valiant effort in such tough race .

Talented group winning chaser Sanctuaire (FR) was put down today after breaking his shoulder and leg in a schooling fall at Punchestown.
Devastating news and we never really did get to see the full extent of his talents

The article on Verma was sad. It was almost one sided saying racing is cruel etc.. but that is what I expect from a point of view that knows little of racing. As were some of the ignorant comments from readers. Sorry to rant. I just wish people were more informed about racing and how I'm sure they would have saved her if they could. RIP Verma.

Agreed , I understand it was very bad and if they thought they could save her , it would have
been done .

From stories in other Australian news sources, it sounded like damage control rather than an assault on racing. People watching this high profile race saw a filly from a well known, wealthy owner go down and from the tweets it seemed many felt she should have been given a chance. But as we read, even in the best stables with the deepest pockets--many cannot be saved. Whether it is a race, a paddock accident, a breeding incident or a foaling problem. Life happens.terpsichorist wrote:Prairie Bayou wrote:The article on Verma was sad. And it is frustrating to accept.

Photographer Nancy Rokos is reporting that Dry Martini died yesterday, but she doesn't know the cause. Has anyone else heard anything??

So very depressing to hear this. Followed him when he ran and was so happy to read about his new second career. Author’s note: Dry Martini was euthanized this week following treatment at New Bolton Center, according to his devastated owner, Penny Woolley. A cause of his illness has not yet been determined. Off-TrackThoroughbreds is re-running a story we did last May on the amazing Thoroughbred, and our thoughts are with those who loved this horse.

Sounds like a horrible crash, and if I were to guess, his 'friend' (the driver) was showing off for his famous buddy and driving too damn fast. Damn shame.
