What a sweet photo. A mother's heart always has room for one more little one. Just adorable.

<Next Races>

1) Leukerbad out of Azeri ---> Fukujuso Tokubetsu (2000m conditional race for 3yos at Kyoto) on 11 Jan 2016
2) L'Arc out of Lilacs and Lace ---> Sinzan Kinen (G3 for 3yos, 1600m at Kyoto) on 11 Jan 2016
(She seems to follow Gentildonna's steps to the JPN 1000 Guineas although it would be tough to face 3yo colts in a graded stakes as her 2nd race; for Gentildonna, she took the race as her 3rd one, so a bit easier, perhaps.)
3) Lani, Tapit x Heavenly Romance ---> Hyacinth Stakes (Listed, 1600m dirt for 3yos at Tokyo) on 21 Feb 2016

Nice win! Who was the #8 horse finishing so fast?

Hope L'Arc does well too!

The #8 filly is Meisho Tachimachi (JPN), Special Week x Saariselka (War Emblem).

● About Leukerbad

Trainer:'He broke well, but the jockey held him back off the pace to give a lesson to him who has much room for improvement. His next race will be Kisaragi Sho (G3, 1800m at Kyoto on 7th Feb).'

Yutaka Take: 'Each time he races, he is getting better, and yet, not so agile as to zigzag though a packed field, I think this race style suits him. So what remains to be done is how to respond to more horses (18 or so) in different developments of race. Still, a rather talented colt.'

Take says that the Azeri colt reminds him of Kizuna. His next race will be a rematch with Satono Diamond who beat him in his debut.

(*) The photo at the bottom of the page shows colt's connections. Standing next to Y Take is the owner, Mr Terada, accompanied by his wife Ms Chiyono Terada, also a well-known owner of JRA horses. Interesting to see Mr Koji Maeda (the man wearing a pink tie), representative of North Hills Co. Ltd, the major owner-breeder in Japan, standing next to the trainer, Mr Mikio Matsunaga (4th person on the left), an ex-JRA jockey and the JRA best trainer (in terms of training technique) in 2015.

● King of Arms, 3yo c out of Ermine (Exchange Rate), broke his maiden (2000m at Nayakama):

That's high praise being compared to Kizuna. He's really quite lovely. Looks a little like his mama through his head and eyes.

So good to see this, especially today, when we learned of Exchange Rate's passing. Thank you for posting it!

Satono Kingdom, 3yo c, out of Dalicia, half to Animal Kingdom, won Saintpaulia Sho (1800m for 3yos, Tokyo) today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h_PSwl5jBo
#4, Tosaki (blue cap)

time: 13.0 - 11.4 - 11.9 - 12.2 - 12.3 - 12.2 - 11.2 - 11.5 - 11.6 = 107.3 sec

The final 3F for Satono Kingdom is 33.5 sec. Interesting to compare his performance with Leukerbad's in Fukujuso Tokubetsu; the filly finishing 2nd in this race was Meisho Tachimachi, Special Week x Saariselka (War Emblem), who was beaten by a half length by Azeri's colt in her previous start.

Meisho Tachimachi got the first jump, but Satono Kingdom ran her down. Impressive! Those two have a lot of talent.

I too love the way Meisho Tachimachi carries her tail, like an Arabian :-)

LOL it's like a love triangle... the filly is so good, the two colts have been slightly better. But who will win in the end?

(imagine that said in the voice/style of a Hollywood movie trailer... )

Take about Leukerbad:
'He kept pulling all the way to 1000m, which made the difference in the end.'

He looks still green, both mentally and physically. Wait until he will mature next year.
