He is a dark brown/dark bay. You can tell because of the brown on his muzzle as well as the brown at his stiffle. Very subtle and easy to miss but betray his true colour

ETA: upon further inspection you can even see where the dark point demarcation between the black and the brown happens on one of his legs (on that picture)... here I've indicated some arrows (and a circle) to show the brown spots I saw.
