I don't get these pricings.

One of them won 2 races in a SIX month career, one of which was an ungraded stakes against TWO other horses - and placed in a G2. Couldn't hold him together long enough to finish out the season. He's $5000 more than his brother who is a millionaire and raced 41 times, but is a graded stakes winner on grass, G1 stakes placed on grass too. He tailed off a bit at the end, but he was always classy and seems like a steal for $2500.

They are banking on Japan's untapped talent, and his dirt "record" I am guessing. He's a bit sexier in that Mott was talking him up quite a bit as a talented horse. But again, he only raced 6 months in his life. Al Khali spent a long time off the shelf (Aug/13 - June/15), but I suspect running on the grass was easier on him and he did still make 41 starts. Al Khali is a ridgling while Japan is not.

I will be curious to see how these 2 do compared with each other.

For whatever it's worth, Al Khali won on dirt early in his career, too (2/3 year old years) so it's not like he had horrible dirt form. It really is the oddest pricing situation I've ever seen.

I think this article explains the pricing discrepancy between Al Khali and Japan, and the low entry price for Al Khali. From his co-owner Adam Wachtel:
"I plan to breed as many of my mares to him as I can. I didn't put a big stud fee on him because I was really more interested in getting people to give Al Khali a shot than I was making money off of the fees. He was so special I was hoping there might be a bunch of Al Khali babies out there running in the future. He's probably the most accomplished son of Medaglia d'Oro standing in New York."

This is actually kind of sweet.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

That's absolutely a fair price, and I do like his reasoning. The horse was a real competitor and this makes him very accessible to breeders. I hope he does well.

For sporthorse, can't you just used a surrogate mare as well? Just need to buy the ovum and see if they'll sell you some of AK? lol

If it's a TB mare and you want to register it with the Jockey Club, even for a sporthorse prospect, you still gotta do the deed the old fashioned way. Not that the JC really matters at that point, but it's good to have. But a warmblood mare? Yep, you can do pretty much any mad scientist thing the breeding industries who are in the 21st century have cooked up.

I've always been especially fond of Al Khali, so I love that they're marketing and pricing him as they are. Japan is a nice looking horse too, but I can't wait to see all the little AKs.

There's even a Perlino to increase our chances to get E? A? CrC
(Also out of curiosity I checked and she's registered with the JC and approved for RPSI and Oldenburg (GOV) http://www.pedigreequery.com/sunila )

Aga Khan Fees

Born to Sea - €10,000
Charm Spirit - €27,500
Dalakhani - €15,000
Makfi - €20,000
Sea the Stars - €125,000
Sinndar - €3,000
Siyouni - €30,000

Really confident price for Sea the Stars. He has cooled off majorly since last year, I wonder how big of a book he will get at that price.
