Leukerbad's next will be a 1800m maiden at Kyoto on 29th Nov. As I wrote above, Y Take will ride him (no Japan Cup for him). Also, it was reported that Azeri went to DI this spring; perhaps, they might repeat the same mating until they have a filly? Previous three covers for 2013 to 2015 all resulted in colts.

'His response was such that I was sure I could overtake the winner, but...' (Take's comment just after the Leukerbad's race)

The debut for Cablegram, 2yo c, out of Ginger Punch, was at Tokyo (1800m turf) today. He ran...eh... in a half asleep mode, almost.

#3 (red cap; Ryan Moore)

Also, #9 (pink cap) was Mozu Joy (USA), Kitten's Joy x Observation (Pulpit), finishing 3rd.

'He didn't break well, and pace was slow. He also didn't concentrate well, took time to take off; once his engine was ignited, however, he showed a good acceleration in the final furlong. Perhaps, a longer distance, 2000m or so, may be better for him. Next time, he will improve.' (Ryan Moore about Cablegram)

Cablegram
R Moore reportedly wants to ride him again- 'one of the most comfortable 2yos to ride this season'-while staying in Japan, and the colt will be called back to track from a short refreshment at a nearby training farm, perhaps in mid or late December.

Lani (USA), 2yo c, Tapit x Heavenly Romance (Sunday Silence), broke his maiden (1800m dirt) at Kyoto on 22 Nov. His dam is a G1 winner (Tenno Sho Autumn in 2005), and has been in America to be bred to local stallions.

Wow, running back in five days (and another win!)... is that common in Japan, or more unusual?

I am in love!!!! :D Besides being lovely to look at, he is super talented(at least I think so). With a horse like this, who runs really well on the dirt, and handles big fields with ease, are the owners perhaps thinking of running him in the Kentucky Derby? He doesn't look like he would have any problems facing a big Derby field and he seems to be determined guy with a lot of heart and the will to win. Thank you for the link. Definitely one to watch!

Not unusual, but not so often as in Australia  , I suppose. The grey gained 2kg of his weight between the two races. I'll report more about him later.

Leukerbad's maiden at Kyoto (1800m) today:

#11 Leukerbad (Yutaka Take)
#5 Tanino Urban Sea (GB) (Sea the Stars x Vodka)
#9 Persi's Best (Deep Impact x Persistently)

sectional times: (1000m=63.2s, slow pace; Leukerbad's final 3F: 33.6s)
13.3 - 11.7 - 12.0 - 13.1 - 13.1 - 12.9 - 11.7 - 11.2 - 11.3 = 110.3s

Yutaka Take on Leukerbad after the maiden:

'A strong race, isn't it? Both the turf condition (i.e., not yielding) and the outer track (i.e., having the longer home stretch of 403m) were favorable for him. Frankly, winning the race today was a must. I'm sure he would have no problem with longer distances. This is a horse to go up further than where he is, so I'm looking forward to it.'

Watching him speaking about the colt in his own TV programme, I noticed the jockey seemed careful in choosing words; he wanted to say something definite, but refrained from doing so, stopping a few steps before it. That said, he twice repeated the colt could handle longer distances, and said the brown colt reminded him of his sire. What he said was clearly reflected in the race style of the maiden, that's my opinion.

He was an attractive foal. Love the looks Azeri's giving him. These pictures were re-tweeted yesterday.

I noticed Major Emblem's second dam was owned by Darley.
Anybody knows how Northern Farm bought into this family?

They must have bought Titled privately. All her foals were bred by Northern Farm.

I love @nabecci's Twitter feed for many reasons, but one is that s/he always has many pics of Wind in her Hair. That is one happy retired broodmare.
