Pimpernel (2011 c, Elusive Quality x Xtra Heat) finished third in his debut today in R7 at BHP. He is owned by Juddmonte and trained by Baffert. First time I can remember seeing that combination, but my memory is not what it used to be.

I think you are correct. I remember it was kind of weird/a big deal last year, when Baffert purchased Pimpernel (and a couple of others, I think) on their behalf and the partnership was announced.ThreeMustangs wrote:Pimpernel (2011 c, Elusive Quality x Xtra Heat) finished third in his debut today in R7 at BHP. They had a juvenile winnerat BHP about a week ago as well. (Beach Hut, by First Defence.) Pimpernel ran pretty well for a first-timer but tired late (and ducked out wildly, maybe from the whip). His name is clever: He's by Elusive Quality, and here's part of a poem from the old classic "The Scarlet Pimpernel," about a British spy v. Napoleon: "Is he in heaven? Is he in hell? That demmed [damned], elusive Pimpernel!"mariasmon wrote:I think you are correct. I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

there is a stallion in the UK named Elusive Pimpernel, but Elusive Quality. He is being bred to Snow Fairy, hahaDiver52 wrote:They had a juvenile winnerat BHP about a week ago as well. Gross. I think 3x3 is to closely inbred. 2x2 is a whole new ballgame.mariasmon wrote:Dunno where else to put this, but there's an....interesting horse entered on Sat. at GP. Crossed Boundary is an aptly named 2YO colt by Big Brown, out of Border Dispute, by Boundary

If pedigree query is correct, Ben Leon is the owner/breeder, and the mare was never offered for sale i/f to Big Brown, so I guess he has some sort of plan in mindRuffiantoRags wrote:ah yeah, that is inbreeding to the max. Whoever bred this horse doesn't care I guess.

Yeah, that's correct. I think he's trying to breed TBs like Paso Finos.Northport wrote:If pedigree query is correct, Ben Leon is the owner/breeder, and the mare was never offered for sale i/f to Big Brown, so I guess he has some sort of plan in mindRuffiantoRags wrote:ah yeah, that is inbreeding to the max.
