$5000 for Pants On Fire is a good price. 35 starts, 11 wins, won $1.6 million. Multiple graded stakes winner. Stakes wins at 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. Pretty impressive horse. Like you said - an honest runner... very resilient.

I love Pants On Fire, I hope he will be a good solid sire like his sire.

Someone must keep stats on ROI for these stallions? (I don't mean sales prices, but track earnings.)

MGSW Pants on Fire retired to stud, will stand 2016 season in PA at Diamond B Farm for published fee of $5,000.
Wow, I totally thought he was a gelding. Whoops, sorry big boy! Hope he does well at stud, $5,000 seems like a very fair price for him.

Yeah I've thought that a couple times too. I think its because he was owned/trained and the same age as Belmont winner Ruler On Ice, who was a gelding, and Pants On Fire participated in the Kentucky Derby that year.

Sales averages are a little hard to go buy with these new studs at farms with large books... You're going to get a wide variety of mares at $10k and a huge book and some good ones and some not so good. The notes I've seen on the better ones are promising for Thirsty. Maybe an Uncle Mo kind of first year once those babies hit the track.

I'm really surprised at the Jersey Towns. That's crazy for a lesser named stallion prospect. Would love anyone who's seen the foals weigh in?

Another Indy line but at least a little proven in the $10k range would be Trappe Shot. Son of Tapit, so who knows what will turn out from that. But he's got some nice horses running this year and is standing at a farm that won't throw every mare at him that comes by with a check.
Thanks! The Trappe Shot's sold pretty well too so I would guess they are pretty nice to look at.

We have a Stay Thirsty at the farm out of a stakes producing mare. Huge baby, very pretty and classy looking though. I really look forward to seeing how he develops as a yearling.

$10k seems a bit high at first thought... but you'd be hard pressed to find a better bred horse at the $10k mark.

This is just an intriguing bit of information.

Mostly how it appears to show that Awesome Again is overpriced and Justifies that jump for Scat Daddy and if I had a mare I'd be looking at Blame and Into Mischief.

Breeders who go for these fees have to believe that they're going to have the million dollar yearling. I can see some very cold baths being taken in 2018 when the yearlings go to market. And if the market falls again. . .
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Awesome Again may be a bit overpriced, but at his age, I don't think they are too concerned if he only attracts 80 or so mares.

I wonder what Curlin's stud fee would have been if he had stayed at Lanes End. Does anybody else think Hill n' Dale is looking for a quick return on their investment with him?

Stonestreet owns controlling interest(80%), so they get to make the calls. I think he would have still gone up at Lane's End.

You really think he would have gone up by 65k at Lane's End? How much input does an owner have when setting fees?

100%. The farm may advise but ultimately the owner can decide. If the farm says they can sell him at a higher price, though, why would the owner want to sell him lower?

I think a lot of stallions are too high, but don't see where Curlin's fee is more debatable than the others who similarly made huge jumps. I wonder if we won't hear of farms having to deal on a bunch of these high fees. There are only so many mares that breeders put these kind of fees in.

Curlin had a really good year, let's see him continue to repeat those results. That will answer all of the questions about the price hike. He is seeing some plenty of good mares.
