Speaking of big boys, the caption reads: The mighty Curlin looked to be in fine fettle at his new home at Hill ‘N’ Dale.

Loved him as a race horse (although I thought it was great that my Rags to Riches beat him in the Belmont), and he is stunning as stallion. One beautiful piece of horseflesh!

Is he pin fired in front? I don't recall ever seeing that on him.

Yeah. It had to have been done prior to Stonestreet buying him because of recovery time. Maybe it was the reason he didn't start until 3? I really wish no one would use that practice anymore.Della wrote:Is he pin fired in front? I don't recall ever seeing that on him.

My heart beats for that big red horse. He seems HUGE in that photo. He looks great.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

I am out of the loop --- Why was he moved from Lane's End? He is certainly doing well enough to warrant them keeping him there. And Lane's End broodmare population is superior to that of most other farms, so it has an excellent chance of 'making' a stallion.
Was the syndicate manager not happy with Lane's End?

This makes me sad. Having a 4 year old, 1st year stallion cover that many mares cannot be justified if the overall plan is to keep the stallion sound for several decades. 4 year olds are not fully mature and, just like racing, it takes a while to get their muscles in shape. Asking a young stallion to cover over 200 mares (and possibly over 400!!!!!) is just asking for stifle/hock/back problems down the road.RuffiantoRags wrote:You can bet at least 200, and then if he shuttles, another 200. total over production in my opinion. I prefer smaller crops like 120 max, then you may have some value going for you in the sales.Northport wrote:Coolmore's standard for their young stallions is usually 200-225.Vandalay wrote: Anyone want to hazard a guess at how many mares will be in AP's first book?
Also, breeding rights to Nyquist have been purchase by Darley

After the last 5 champion 2 y/o colts (excluding Shared Belief) went to Coolmore, Darley hopped on this one quick
Would anyone consider asking a 2 year old to race when he is still breezing 3f? Asking a young stallion to cover a huge number of mares is the same thing.

Hill N Dale had purchased a 20% interest in Curlin from the courts after the share went up for auction.Lord Helpus wrote:Lord Helpus wrote:I am out of the loop --- Why was Curlin moved from Lane's End? I noticed that American Pharoah's 1/2 brother XIXIXI (by Maimondes) will stand at stud at Xanthus Farm, PA for $5,000.

I think I recall it being zee-zee-zee by race callers, but proper pronunciation would be closer to she-she-she.lurkey mclurker wrote:...how do you even say that name? I think it's the chinese word 'xi' (pronounced as 'she'). Roman numerals would be VI ;PAdmin wrote:666?
Why would anyone name a horse that? ;-(
ETA and technically "666" would be DCLXVI !

His brother has his head!
Funny how all the others from the dam have some bling to them. AP really is the odd one out.....
