you can see Leukerbad, 2yo c, out of Azeri in the following link:
http://sportiva.shueisha.co.jp/clm/keib ... 13/184000/ (There you could translate the article about him into English)
The photo was presumably taken 6 months ago, so I hope he now looks more muscular, especially in his hindquarters. He is a stablemate for L'Arc (2yo f, out of Lilacs and Lace), and the trainer, Mr Mikio Matsunaga, said that he would be weighing 440kg or so at his debut, possibly in November.
He has been at his stable in Ritto Training Centre since September to prepare for the debut. No report of injuries or setbacks so far, which is good, but also little exposure to the racing media, which is also not bad in my opinion.

Leukerbad, 2yo c, out of Azeri, will make his debut next Sunday (8th Nov) at Kyoto (2000m turf) with Yukata Take having the mount. Also, a 1600m for newcomers of fillies at Kyoto the day before (7th Nov) will be the debut for L'Arc, 2yo f, out of Lilacs and Lace. Her jockey is the same as Leukerbad's because her owner is a big fan of him.

Yutaka Take (about Leukerbad): 'His footwork is good, typical of a Deep Impact, and ready for the race.'
Satono Diamond, 2yo c, out of Malpensa (ARG), will be entered in the same race as Azeri's colt. They are placed the highest (Leukerbad) and 2nd highest (SD) bids in the Select Sale 2013 foal session. Lemaire will have his mount.

Final workouts this Thursday for L'Arc, Leukerbad, and Satono Diamond:
1) L'Arc (with Yutaka Take, the blue cap and jacket)

2) Leukerbad (inside; ridden by his assistant trainer; quality of the video is bad)

(watch him running from 0:25~; after the video, Leukerbad has been booed in the Net. He runs with his head rather low, which may not been clearly seen in this)
3) Satono Diamond (in the middle of the three, with Lemaire)

That was impressive! Thanks for sharing. I wondered how Lilacs and Lace and her babies were doing. Hope L'Arc turns out to be a good one!uma_nosuke wrote:L'Arc made her debut at Kyoto (1600m):

L'Arc and Satono Diamond have been focuses of fans' attention as promising 2yos even before their first races, which was supported by lots of photos and rumors, stuff something like that; Northern Farm staff reportedly took the trouble to come to watch L'Arc's final workout (her video above), which suggests what she means to them.
On the other hand, how Azeri's colt has been doing was difficult to know, except for a few small photos and comments from Northern Farm just saying he is OK, although I had been trying to get it since he was sold in the JRHA Select Sale Foal Session 2013. Perhaps, he might be not so good as to deserve what his parental backgrounds imply, my thought was that. Gladly, it was wrong; he was quite well enough to be competitive on the 2000m soft turf. Although he is not physically impressive-having the exactly same weight as his sire at his debutー, he has no quirky disposition plus without foot issues, which is more than what I had expected. Hope he will stay fit with no injury.

Also Amelie, i.e., Azeri's daughter by Distorted Humor was entered in a 1400m allowance (dirt) at Kyoto on 7th Nov, finishing 8th. She will be retiring to stud next year:

Satono Diamond got first jump on Leukerbad, and both finished strongly. It'd be real nice if Azeri's Deep Impact colt turned out to be her best. I hope he continues to outperform these early expectations.
But there's just something about that little filly L'Arc that really catches my eye. I can see why Northern Farm's staff are excited about her.
Can't wait to see how these babies do over time.
Thanks for the info about Amelie. All the best to her in her new role. Any thoughts on which stallion they might choose to send her to?

No idea Perhaps, to a new stallion? Incidentally, Spielberg, 6yo h out of Princess Olivia, retired to stud (destination is Shadai Stallion Station). But to him, Teruya Yoshida will send his mares, and since Amelie belongs to Northern Farm, stallions bred at or related to the farm might be her first mate.Sparrow Castle wrote:Thanks for the info about Amelie. As for L'Arc, the trainer announced she would have no race this year, which means she skips the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies (G1,1600m) in December, the race to determine the best 2yo filly. Perhaps, he might allow her to follow the footsteps of Gentildonna who was entered to a G3 mainly for 3yo colts in January after breaking her maiden in mid December.Sparrow Castle wrote:But there's just something about that little filly L'Arc that really catches my eye.
Choosing appropriate raced before stepping up to JPN-1000 Guineas as well as securing prize money for qualification wouldn't be easy; Mikki Queen, the best 3yo filly, failed in that respect; she had no option but to ballot for a starting slot due to insufficient earnings and was thrown out of the race. With a better race type choice, she might have been another triple tiara winner. So sorry for LA'rc's trainer, Mr Mikio Matsunaga because he wouldn't sleep well next Spring.
Also I'm glad Rouge Buck is back to action in the QEII Cup (G1) at Kyoto this weekend. Her half brother, Cablegram, 2yo c, will make his debut on 21st Nov with Ryan Moore. With him, I'm not so optimistic (blame me if he wins ).
Hartley, 2yo c, out of Wickedly Perfect (USA), will also run his first race (Tokyo 2000m, Ryan Moore having the mount) this Saturday. His trainer has been boasting of him to the degree to making us doubt his seriousness. Is this too a kind of Ryan Moore Effect?

Leukerbad's next race will be a 1800m maiden at Kyoto on 29 Nov (the Japan Cup day at Tokyo). It is said that Y Take will come to Kyoto to ride him, meaning he will not appear in the flagship race of the JRA. Persi's Best, 2yo f out of Persistently, aims at winning the same race.
Hartley, 2yo c out of Wickedly Perfect (Congrats), looks good; he gallops springily like a feather although he is relatively a big horse.
(*) This is not out of a foreign-bred mare, but Leontes, 2yo c, out of Cesario (Sunday Silence), is ' at least as good as his half brother, Epiphaneia.' (assistant trainer of Sumii Stable) Being big, dynamic, and full of energy, perhaps better than Epiphaneia?

How he ran reminded me of his trainer's comment that the colt doesn't understand what he is doing. Oder Driven, 2nd fav, was also good.

Cesario has been bred to King Kamehameha since 2013. At least one of them will surely explode.mariasmon wrote:Always happy to hear news on Cesario and her offspring.
Ryan Moore about Hartley:
'Still green, but a very good horse. Quickly responded to my push toward space opened; a sure graded-stakes winner in the future, when he would be better. I wish to ride him again then.' (*this is not exactly what Ryan Moore said in English, but is what I re-translated from the JPN media quoting as his saying in Japanese.*)
