Free As A Bird finished 3rd in the Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes at Keeneland today. She won this race last year. Before the race they mentioned that her trainer had said this would be her last race. She had a great career. That run of 6 straight stakes win from last year into this spring was really amazing. She is owned by her breeder, so maybe she will keep her as a broodmare. She stumbled pretty badly on the back stretch and seemed to lose some ground because of it. May have left her with too much to do to catch the leaders.

Memories of Winter won race # 9 at Laurel Park today. He is now 2 for 2. He drifted a good bit during the stretch run, but got the job done decisively.

Some news on Hard Not To Like preparing for possible appearance in BC filly and mare turf.
Multiple graded stakes winner Hard Not to Like breezed over Belmont's main track Sunday morning for trainer Christophe Clement, as her connections weigh a possible start in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) Oct. 31 at Keeneland. The Ontario-bred daughter of Hard Spun worked an easy five furlongs, earning an official time of 1:02.98 to rank 10th of 11 at the distance.

"She had a nice maintenance work—nothing special," Clement said of the move. "She looked well to me. She seems to have come back in good order."

Back-to-back grade I wins established Hard Not to Like, owned by Peter Fluor's Speedway Stables, as one of the more formidable players of her division this year.

"The plan is to work her back next week on the turf before I make a final decision, but I will speak with Mr. Fluor and we will decide if we want to pre-enter for the Breeders' Cup on Monday," Clement said.

This year's Breeders' Cup would be the second championship appearance for the 6-year-old Hard Not to Like, who finished fifth in the 2011 Juvenile Fillies Turf at Churchill Downs.

Big John B worked 6 furlongs in 1:15 2/5 yesterday at Santa Anita in preparation for the 1 1/2 mile Breeders Cup Turf. He followed it with a big strong gallop out, according to his trainer.

Hard Not To Like had her final breeze for the Breeder's Cup today.

Also on the worktab for Clement Oct. 24 was Hard Not to Like, turning in her ultimate breeze for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) with Velazquez in the irons. The 6-year-old daughter of Hard Spun worked a dogs-up half-mile on the inner turf in :49.55 in company.

"The important thing was to settle her, because the Breeders' Cup is 1 3/16 miles," Clement said. "She looked well. Johnny said he had no problem keeping her settled. She was strong, but manageable. They finished very well. The last quarter was very nice. She came back well."

Smooth Roller and Hard Not To Like both scratched from their respective BC races. The former for a tendon issue in a front leg and the latter for a cough following her morning gallop. Well, dang. They were the two most promising of the Hard Spun BC contenders.

And I have to say he has the most perfect white blaze down the middle of his face. Looks like it was painted on.

HARD NOT TO LIKE sold for $2.2 million and may race once more before retiring.

At the bottom of the article there is a video of her in the sales ring during the auction. She is nominated to the Matriarch (November 29 at Del Mar) and maybe that's where she may run one more time.
